Re: Weather for Big Monday 2-25?

Going 2-3" in Des Moines, pretty slushy snow.

Temps should be right around 32, maybe just above. Snowfall at 32 in daylight just doesn't accumulate, especially with late Feb Sun.

May be tough to even get 2" accumulated actually at one time, since there will probably be a lot of melting going on.

Unless there is a change in track at this point, Des Moines is not going to see 4"+, IMO.

What time/destination Tuesday morning? Judging weather only factors I would say you might have a better shot than that.

00z models all in now and continue to agree with what I said at ten.

Low Snow totals in Des Moines on Tuesday and basically nothing in Ames for Tuesday.

Strong, dry north wind may also end up shutting Des Moines out as well.

Barring a major shift in low track... there won't be much to talk about with this one nw of Pella.

Since I'm making the trek from Indianola, I'm calling this divine intervention.

Whiteout in Texas as blizzard moves east - CNN.com

"The unprecedented nature of this much snow in this short a period of time will create conditions ... across the entire city that are basically unprecedented for the traveling public," Joe Pajor of the Wichita, Kansas, Public Works and Utilities department,
told CNN affiliate KSN. Parts of the area could see up to 26 inches of snow from the storm, the station reported, and the weather service said Wichita would be under a blizzard warning until 6 a.m. Tuesday.
JHawks may be stuck in the Ames area tonight.

Re: Weather for Big Monday 2-25?

All-time Texas snowfall record could be set in blizzard

The weather service warned of similar high winds and upward of a foot of snow across south-central Kansas. Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback amended a state of emergency declaration to include the new weather.

"This storm has the potential to be more dangerous than last week's storm," Brownback said late Sunday. The storm late last week dumped more than a foot of snow in some places, closing airports and leading to several deadly traffic accidents.
This might hurt KU recruiting. Two blizzards in a week. Plus Toto tornados.

Re: Weather for Big Monday 2-25?

Local forecasts in the KC area seem to be from 10 on the low end up to 18 on the high end, with high winds. I think it is a pretty safe bet that KU doesn't make it home on time.
