    Minimalists

A Sarpy family downsizes to live larger - Omaha.com
The Lippincotts mom, dad, daughter and son went from a 2,000-square-foot house in suburbia to a one-bedroom apartment where the kids share a futon sleeper and everyone shares one clothes closet about 33 items apiece.
Their downsizing wasn't driven by foreclosure or job loss, although the shaky economy did nudge them to shed materials and expenses.

Good for them. I hope to someday do this when my children are all off to college.

I think possibly the dumbest thing people do is burden themselves with a lifetime of mortgage payments. Why not live simpler, smaller, and happier. Having too much stuff stresses me out and makes me very unhappy.

This is a good way to live, I could move anywhere in the country in 20 minutes notice. 2 plastic tubs worth of stuff and a matress.

That would be awesome IMO! I would feel so free if I had that little amount of stuff.

It works for me, but I'm obviously not tied down to a family or anything.

So could I. But man, I'd have to leave a lot of awesome stuff behind!

It's not that I can't handle it, it's that I don't want to. I feel like a slave to all my crap, and my house payments. I'd love nothing more than to be completely debt free, including home and autos, and move into a small home and get rid of most of my stuff. It would be great. And it will happen. My wife is with me on this.

"No Jules, you’re gonna be like those pieces of **** out there who beg for change. They walk around like a bunch of ****-ing zombies, they sleep in garbage bins, they eat what I throw away, and dogs **** on ‘em. They got a word for ‘em, they’re called bums. And without a job, residence, or legal tender, that’s what you’re gonna be – a ****-ing bum!"

    Loved this little gem:

“You want to take care of your kids. You want to take care of your spouse and your 2,000-square-foot house. You want to be able to shower and you just can't do it all. I just couldn't make it all fit.”
Not sure how wanting to showering worked its way into the discussion.

I hope a tub at least made the cut.

no way man, tubs are too extravagant for minimalists. they prefer to wash themselves by rolling in a grassy field, fresh with morning dew. It's simpler that way. Plus there's the added potential of catching a gopher. Mix it up with the beans from your bindle, and boom. Breakfast! How many times have you done that in your fancy tub?
