This really is not a surprise. Honestly, WGN seems to get like 1/3 of the games anymore.

Agree...but completely? Thought they would at least hang-on to Sundays or maybe weekends? Just doesn't seem right...kind of like when the Cardinals left KMOX radio for a few years...just wrong! Glad they went back to them...

Not only that but WGN has never really paid the Cubs much of anything to broadcast games. Since the Tribune company owned the Cubs, WGN got away with paying the Cubs almost nothing. This will be the first time the Ricketts can go to a bidding war with other outlets and WGN won't be able to pay what other companies are willing to offer.

Exactly right...all about the $$$...the next thing we will see is advertisements on uniforms! That will be a sad day for baseball!

Have you seen the money the Dodgers, Angels & Rangers have gotten lately for their tv rights? If I'm the Cubs/Ricketts I'm going to try and get as much as I can even if it means leaving WGN.

Nah, we'll just see the team names changing to sponsorships similar to what they do in Japan. It will be the Busch Cardinals vs the E-Trade Cubs.

My favorite team name of all time has to be the Nippon Ham Fighters.

The Cubs are a business. There is no reason for them to discount their product to any distributor for traditions sake.

I know...how bad would that be! Don't even like to think about it! There are owners that would do that today if the league let them and they could pocket a lot of cash!

No one said they should...and they have been the epitome of a business over the last 25 to 30 years! Wonderful marketing without putting a strong product out yet they attracted a lot of people to come watch them because they played in an ancient park!

I used to love watching the Braves when the only games other than those on WGN were the Saturday afternoon games on network tv.

Awesome, this will save me $7 a month since now I can drop down a tier on DirecTV!

I know...the only people who will specifically want WGN on a cable system are those who want the Chicago news. I would assume the White Sox and Bulls (lumped together) will leave as well once their contracts expire. Unless WGN ponies up some big money to keep the professional sports. I loved that channel growing up...it was great when they showed DePaul basketball games too (way back when DePaul was good)!
