    Freezing a gallon of milk

Dahl's in Ames has A/E milk for $1.99/gallon. I bought 6 gallons today, as with two boys 11 & 15 along with daycare kids we go through a gallon a day. The checkout gal asks "are you going to freeze it? There was a lady that was here yesterday that bought 15 gallons." Never heard of going this before. Any one ever freeze a gallon of milk before if so pros and cons on it?

    Thanks!!!

By the way $1.99 is good until 2/18!!

Re: Freezing a gallon of milk

The skeptic in me says this will lead to the gallon exploding, but I could be wrong.

my uncle does this when he gets milk from us - he says it tastes just fine. Drink it down a bit so it doesn't explode and then stick it in the freezer. He leaves it in there for a few weeks sometimes.

    This.

There are 6 people in my house, and drink milk like it is water. We freeze it all the time. Some brands you dont have to drink down, but you should probably do it just in case. Thawing it out is the trick. Stick it in the shower until there is no ice in it, then stick it in the fridge for a day before you drink it.

Id like to drink those down a bit......

Freezing is fine, we do it, just dont expect the center ice to be gone just by thawing in the fridge, I havent tried the shower trick.

I'm not trying to be difficult, it comes naturally....

We freeze milk all the time, good for about 6 months in a deep freeze, about 1-2 in a regular freezer.
