    Redshirting.

Call me an idiot, but this is a sincere question. If the NCAA did honest-to-goodness testing for steroids, how would it impact the number of redshirting freshmen?

I have no idea if you are an idiot or not, but what the hell does redshirting have to do with steroid testing?

I'm assuming he thinks that the programs who don't redshirt players have them doing steroids to get their bodies ready for college football

    Re: Redshirting.

Actually, I was thinking along the lines of, they are spending a year pumping them full of steroids. If they were tested would redshirting be a waste?

I thought he might mean that redshirting players don't get tested so they can do steroids freely? I don't know.

Absolutely not, it would still give players time to get acclimated to both the college life, and the football life. Plus a year to learn the playbook. Plus, I think you doubt how much weight is put on just due to good weight-lifting, adding muscle for an entire year

    Re: Redshirting.

Whether a player is red shirting or not has no bearing on is they are selected for drug testing.

One year during 2 a days I would say the NCAA tested probably 75% of our team (and since it was 2 a days it really wasn't known yet who was red shirting or not).

From my experiences I do not think Steroids are a problem in college football. There are enough other legal supplements out there, plus when you lift and eat like these guys get to packing on the muscle they do is not a hard thing to do.
