Minutes distribution with Bubu in the lineup

Here is the difference comparing minutes distribution when Bubu is and isn't in the lineup. The averages prior to Bubu playing are from Big 12 games only. The averages with Bubu in the lineup includes the Kansas State game, at Oklahoma St, Baylor, and at Kansas St. I didn't include the Oklahoma game because the reserves got in and would have skewed the averages of the players. These numbers obviously aren't exact on where each player is playing. But I think after watching these 4 games these numbers are decently accurate on who is playing where, and for how many minutes.

Babb before Bubu: 37.2 mpg, with Bubu 36.0 mpg (-1.2)
Ejim before Bubu: 29.8 mpg, with Bubu 27.8 mpg (-2.0)
Lucious before Bubu: 33.1 mpg, with Bubu 29.8 mpg (-3.3)
Clyburn before Bubu: 31.0 mpg, with Bubu 33.0 mpg (+2.0)
Niang before Bubu: 26.0 mpg, with Bubu 30.0 mpg (+4.0)
Booker before Bubu: 8.5 mpg, with Bubu 0.0 mpg (-8.5)
Percy before Bubu: 12.2 mpg, with Bubu 8.5 mpg (-3.7)
Tyrus before Bubu: 22.2 mpg, with Bubu 20.3 mpg (-1.9)

    Bubu: averaging 14.8 mpg

    Before Bubu

    PG: Lucious-33.1, Clyburn-6.9
    SG: McGee-22.2, Babb-17.8
    SF: Clyburn-20.6, Babb-19.4
    PF: Clyburn-3.5, Ejim-29.8, Niang-6.7
    C: Niang-19.3, Percy-12.2, Booker-8.5

    With Bubu

    PG: Lucious-29.8, Bubu-10.2
    SG: Bubu-4.6, McGee-20.3, Babb-15.1
    SF: Babb-20.9, Clyburn-19.1
    PF: Clyburn-13.9, Ejim-26.1
    C: Ejim-1.7, Niang-30, Percy-8.5

Here are a few things that I have noticed that have changed since Bubu has started playing:

    1. Bubu is playing backup PG shifting Clyburn to play more minutes at PF.
    2. Bubu is playing some SG shifting Babb to play more minutes at SF.
    3. Babb is playing more minutes at SF shifting Clyburn to play more minutes at PF.
    4. Clyburn is playing more minutes at PF taking away some of Ejim's minutes at PF, and all of Niangs minutes at PF.
    5. Niang is playing all of his minutes at C which takes minutes away from Percy, and takes away all of Bookers minutes.
    6. The majority of Bubu's minutes are coming from Booker, and a few minutes a piece coming from Percy and Lucious.

I thought Booker had played some good minutes in one game?

9 minutes in the Oklahoma game. I didn't use that game when calculating these stats since we won by 20 and a lot of the reserves played that game.

The only argument I'd make is that we play PG, SG, SG, SF, SF.

I understand the rationale, but you should at least include a caveat for Booker since Booker's minutes in that game definitely didn't come in garbage time.

I'm hoping in the future we at least see:

    PG, C(ombo)G, SG, SF, PF

ISU will rock when we get there. The way Fred plays them I don't think there is need for a true Center and they will be better off when everyone runs like deer and can still shoot lights out.

Re: Minutes distribution with Bubu in the lineup

Some of this is tilted since Georges and Melvin have been called for some dirtball fouls by the infamous B12 refs.

What are the minutes in games when they are not in foul trouble? Forget it. That has not occurred.....

If we had a 1-4 who can run the floor and shoot with a poor-man's Withey on the inside to help clean up it would make a world of difference on the defensive end. Offensively we'd still be disgustingly good but defensively we'd be able to really clamp down.

Yeah I'm really trying to prove a point you're right. What was I thinking to not include Bookers 9 minutes in the past 5 games. Would have totally contradicted the point I was trying to prove and make me look bad. You have me figured out! Can't get anything past you.

Re: Minutes distribution with Bubu in the lineup

Sure it would be nice to have the ability to go with a big in the center but hopefully ISU still has the quality players to play "small" as well. Fred has shown the ability to coach them around a dominant big guy for the opposition. It would be nice to have that be their bread and butter (generally are used to playing small a good portion of the time) rather than it being something they have to adjust to.

I guess I'm saying sure it would be nice to have that option (the center), but I am hopeful it is not something they have to rely on.

Re: Minutes distribution with Bubu in the lineup

Missing the point of this other than people that thought Bubu won't play much of a role were wrong. We have nine guys capable of contributing on any given night. It's going to change by game depending on matchups. It's not like our women's team that has little depth and minutes and kids on the court can't vary much. Fennelly can only vary the play style game to game, not the players. Hoiberg can go NBA and change up the game strategy and the guys on the court. I think you can throw the "I expect to see player X play 15 minutes in the next game" out the window.

It's a shame we can't get Tyrus at least 5 more minutes/gm. It's hard to take Babb off the floor.

    I don't know -- wasn't the entire 2nd half garbage time?

May my postings be polite and not misunderstood. (And hopefully funny on occasion.)
