    Bad roommates

Terrible roommate stories - share them.

My junior year I lived in Freddy with randoms – nasty mcnasty, her friend (third, roommate who was nice but too chicken to stand up to nasty mcnasty) and another nice girl who lasted until Christmas.

Not knowing how to use a dishwasher – she would run it and leave her dishes there for days. Not just a weekend when she was gone, but like the better part of a week. Both sides of the sink and counters would be full of dirty dishes waiting to go in.

Screaming matches over the phone with her mom (I shared a wall with her). Watching loud movies until 2am when I had to be out the door for team practice at 5am. Even after I would politely ask that she turn it down.

Accusing me of stealing her food
Being such a pig that the 4th girl moved out at Christmas (she told me directly that that was why she was leaving). The new girl in January moved out after two WEEKS – also told me that was why she was moving out.
Using my pots and pans, cooking God knows what on them, and then leaving them for me to clean – not just like wipe out, but caked on burned nasty stuff that took forever to get mostly clean.
Having her drug addict boyfriend come stay over
Having 6am fun time with her drug addict boyfriend. The sound of a Freddy twin bed being abused by ~ 500lbs+ will never leave my head.
Inviting drug addict boyfriend’s DRUG DEALER to stay over at our apartment and letting him sleep in the unused bedroom by breaking into it. Thankfully, the third roommate warned me ahead of time - because she was staying with her BF as well.
Having screaming crying bouts on the phone after said boyfriend gets arrested and goes to jail.
Screaming fits about ISU being a terrible school trying to take all her money. Hmmm, maybe take less than 6 years to get your Bachelor’s next time.

Now, the coup d’etat. As said, she was a massive pig. After several months of being nice and putting her dishes away when we needed the dishwasher, I started just putting them on the counter instead for her to put away. She’s a big girl, right? Apparently, that ****** her off. The last couple weeks of April (there had been thermostat wars going on here too, sorry, I’m in a damn sweater, blanket, socks, hat, and GLOVES, I’m going to turn it up a couple degrees) you could have cut the tension with a knife. We were in full-on silent hate.

I come back from a meeting one day and a miracle had occurred because she was cleaing the kitchen. Except all my dishes were out of the dishwasher and on the counter. Well that would have been fine except they weren’t even done washing. They were still wet and super hot. So I get ****** and call her out on it. Pointed out how I only do that after she leaves her sitting for DAYS, not pull them out before they’re even done. She starts coming at me (3rd roomie had told me she slapped one of their friends one time). I was standing in my room then and she grabs the door to slam it shut. I grab it from her and pull it back open. She gets right in my face like she’s going to hit me and I said “you lay one finger on me, I’ll have your fatass thrown in jail.”

Not the nicest thing I’ve ever said, but she backed off then and went into her room to call someone and loudly cry and ***** about me. She then posted a couple nice FB statuses about me as well. There’s a ton more I can’t remember, but she was terrible.

I also had a nasty one summer between fresh/soph year that I might post about later.

    Re: Bad roommates

Freshman year first semester had a roommate that would sleep from 6 A.M. until 6 P.M. and snored like a mother trucker.

From 6 P.M. to 6 A.M. (No, I am not getting times wrong) he would play video games on his computer (one of three that he had stashed in our room.) Volume would be turned up, and he would have his mic on as well. So as I tried to sleep, I got to listen to him chat with his buddies about what warlock to kill next.

He showered once every 2 weeks (not exaggerating) and when he would come back, he was still wearing 1 of the 3 pairs of clothing that he brought from home. In the entire first semester, he washed his clothes 0 times. And slept in them as well. So, if you need help, that means he went from August to November (when he went home for Thanksgiving) wearing the same 3 pairs of clothes without washing them.

And, as you may have guessed, sleeping from 6 A.M. to 6 P.M. will not help your grades. He failed every class and was kicked out of Iowa State after semester 1.

Oh, and every time he showered, I febreezed his bed which made him mad. But he smelled so bad that it had to be done.

And he coughed sooo loud that it woke my CA up, who lived on the complete opposite side of our hall.

And he snored so loud that I couldn't hear my 10:00 A.M. SportsCenter, so I had to go to the Den.

By far the worst experience of my life. And, shocker, the dirty MF was from Iowa City.

The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.

    Re: Bad roommates

My husband (let’s call him H) had two bad roommate stories.

Story #1: His junior year (I think) he still lived in the dorms, but got almost to Christmas before anyone got added to his room. When someone did move in, it was an international student from Malaysia. He was fine at first, just a couple odd quirks like never setting up a desk, just having his mattress on the floor, and singing (loudly) along to Korean pop music.

About halfway through spring semester he starts going to Lied quite a bit. But when he’d get back, he’d just throw his sweaty socks on the floor. Never washed them. Eww, but H is like whatever. This goes on for a few weeks before H notices one day that his sock drawer is open a crack and it seems like the clothes have been gone through and he realizes that he seems to be missing some socks. H is nearly OCD with his laundry, so he knows something is off. The next day he makes sure the drawer is completely closed, and counts the remaining socks. Sure enough, that afternoon the drawer is partially open and a pair is missing. He calls me and we’re just like wtf, all those nasty sweaty socks on the floor…………were H’s! H brings this up to the roommate……….and the kid flat out denies it. Nope, not him. H is like the door is always locked, who else would come in and take socks? This kid goes “maybe someone broke in and stole them.” Right, because if you break into a dorm room, you go for the socks first – not the laptop that this kid always left sitting, logged on, on his mattress or anything else of value. They went for the socks. They ended up having to have a little chit chat with the CA who had to explain no, you cannot just take someone else’s clothes, wear them, and throw them on the floor. What a weirdo this one was!

    Story #2
The next year he lived in Freddy with randoms in one of the 2bdrm apts. The kid he shared with was a JUCO dropout, now in his like 4th year at ISU…….majoring in Ag Studies. For those of you who don’t know, Ag studies is beyond easy. You take a couple 100-200 level classes across the various ag disciplines. He failed AnS 114, which is a freshman class. His hardest class was probably Math 104. And yet, he GPA was less than 1.00. He got several letters about getting kicked out to which he would reply with a sob story about getting concussions in high school and learning was so hard for him. Probably made even harder by the fact that he never studied or went to class. Things were ok the first semester, but 2nd semester got rough. H was a CprE major, so he was always working on ****, often late at night. He tried to be considerate and would pull a blanket over the side of the loft bed so his desklamp wouldn’t shine on idiot roommate. But apparently the typing sound bothered Mr. Princess, so if H didn’t have a hugely pressing deadline, he would go to bed. Sometimes he would go to a campus lab too (H didn’t have a laptop so he couldn’t just go to the living room).

I was gone a lot that semester so I don’t remember all the details, but little ****** things like that kept happening. Mr. Princess would go shut off the breaker when he wanted H to stop doing working on something. That ****** H off quite a bit since cutting power to your computer like that is bad and also results in having to redo something if you hadn’t saved it recently.
Princess came back, drunk, at 4am one Saturday night came in, turned on the lights and his computer, and just blasted music. Things like that, all the freaking time.

So H moves out after that and this is all behind him, right? No. Then he starts getting these prank calls from a private number. Usually really late at night. Nasty voicemails if he doesn’t answer, and really awful things said if he answers not knowing who it is. This goes on for YEARS. The most recent one happened within the past six months…….more than two years after H moved out. That's how you know that are a complete loser - when you still drunk dial someone you hated, two plus years later. because you He couldn’t block the number since it was private. I’m sure it took all three of Princesses’ brain cells to figure out how to use *69. After the last incident, I may have found his contact information via the Google. Being every stereotype about a redneck, I’m sure he enjoyed the Obama campaign text updates he started receiving. Apparently he’s blocked me since then so maybe he figured out where his spam was coming from. Hmm, hope he didn’t fry his brain figuring that one out. I think H has his number blocked now, but if he pulls anymore ****, I’m always welcome to new ideas.

I guess I'm the terrible roommate, because I never did dishes or put them away.

For me it comes down to a test of wills, if I can wait the other person out once I know they will always do it.
