Re: Williams Blog: K.J. Bluford's upside

Does the comparison to tyrus end with the skill set, or does this kid have the work ethic of tyrus too? Tyrus' work ethic is what makes him truly special, and is the reason he's a fan favorite

Good write up. SDW, Matt Thomas, Bluford, Niang, Bubu, Ejim should all be capable three point shooters.

You can tell Fred loves multiple shooters who can really spread the floor out.

Good question. It's pretty hard to judge work ethic until the guy gets on campus IMO...

Skill set he is similar to Tyrus though. A great shooter, not a great defender, high energy guy.

Yes and no. I think the question is if he has the hustle mentality. The thing about Tyrus is he is always around the ball, that pesky little **** that drives other teams wild. You can usually see that in his current games.

Re: Williams Blog: K.J. Bluford's upside

    Thanks for additional info CW.
I like the fact he has the expectation of a "Magee role" coming into the program. I assume the plan, at least initially, will be as the 6th man off the bench and instant offense. If he is better than that and carves out a starting spot good for him and CFH, but having a sharp shooter coming fresh off the bench is a big bonus for the Cyclones these past two years. I would like to have a guy like this every year on the team.
I think we all appreciate how Fred uses McGee is the spark coming in at the first time out and how it helps this team either pull even if ISU's in lull or extend a lead once he does. The more shooting options the better.

I meant more like, work outside of practice/games that he will be willing to put in. Extra stuff. Not really talking about what fans see at Hilton.

Safe to say by now that Hoiberg's got an offensive bias, and "make what you can of the defense" philosophy. Which as a fan who wants to be entertained - is fine by me.

That was also Johnny Orr's philosophy

Basically outscore you, and make you speed up to keep up. Oklahoma tried and got destroyed.

I was concerned about the number of bombs this guy throws up, but it does make sense that they're probably well guarded if they don't have a lot of threats.

Good point, I also think its not easy to find a lot of kids right of HS that want to be great defenders. This is even more the case with juco players. I look at juco guards as hired guns to come in and put up points. If we can play team defense the way we have the last 2 years, then things will be fine.
