Follow up for Texas Tech coach Kristi Curry: kudos

This is my first-ever thread to start, but in case folks missed it, last night Christine Hyde (#5--famous for the one-finger salute to our pep band last Saturday) was benched for their entire game against West Virginia.

In the Lubbock Avalanche, the reporter said that she served a one-game coaches suspension for violating team rules. I salute Coach Curry, who said at the press conference post game that she did not know about the gesture, and that if it were true she would deal with it. And she did.

I cut both Hyde and the coach slack for the situation. Hyde lost her cool and paid a price, and Coach Curry sat her in a tough game against a physical and tough West Virginia team (and TTU did win without her!) as TTU is in a tight race for position in the conference. I can think of other coaches in the league, well one anyway, who would likely have blown it off. When Coach Curry mentions sportsmanship in the Big 12, I can believe her a bit more. I actually was hoping for Hyde to be lifted from the starters, but this was more. And that is great. So at least for this once, lets salute Coach Curry for standing up for what is right, and lets not make this a tempest in a teapot in the future.

So is she sending any love to Hilton fans after ripping them?

Color me unimpressed. I am not sure she could do anything other than suspend her for a game. Flipping the crowd off from the court just isn't going to cut it especially after the way she ******* about our fans. Letting is just slide would make her look like a big hyprocrite. I might be impressed if she actually said something about the way Tech fans treat visitors. It's not like they do not have that reputation (and I am not just citing that based on Bill's joking comment).

Is the player a senior or will she get to enjoy Hilton Magic next year too?

Getting suspended for flipping off the crowd? Yikes. Seems extremely harsh punishment.

The number 1 reason I couldnt stand going to an ISU womens game ever again. The thin skinned fans throughout the stadium always yelling at refs, complaining about physical play, etc.

Scotty throat slashing Iowa, Tinsley wagging his jersey at KU fans, Tasheed Carr stomping on the Texas logo, Jared Homan running his mouth in opposing arenas ot their fans. It happens.

Was she wrong? yes. But seriously who cares.

Consider this: they can show each of the actions you highlighted in replays on network TV, but the sensors require them to blur out the hand if they show someone flipping the bird.

By the way, Scotty's action was a "cut it off, the game is over" gesture, not the throat slashing gesture.

"There are five real good recruits in the state. We got three of them. One couldn’t get into school, and the other went to (the University of) Iowa...which is about the same thing." - Coach Johnny Orr

She was not ripping all the fans; just the ones sitting to the right of the visitor's bench, at least that was the direction she was facing at the time.
