Re: WDM may ban front yard gardens

I am conflicted on this. I am a landscape architect, not a farmer gardener but even so I probably have a different take on this than some and that is the zombie factor. In the event of a zombie apocalypse I think maybe being able to grow your own vittles might be a good thing. But than again, tall vegetables could screen out your view of lurking zombies. Is that bushel of sweet corn really worth getting your brains eaten?

BTW, only 4 more days till the return of The Walking Dead.

Simple solution -have a height limit for front yard vegetation, excluding trees. People can have gardens but not 10' corn stalks.

Not everyone has a backyard that is conducive to having a garden. As long as the property owner takes care of it, who cares.

I live in WDM, and get sick and tired of people in the city griping because everything isn't pretty.

How big of stick would you have to have up your butt that this would bother you?

Corn stalks are tacky. However the garden that the lady who commented on the article posted looks nice IMO.

You know what bothers me in my front yard? Your kids. Keep them off my lawn and out of my garden. Lock them up in your own backyard.

First they tell you where you can put your garden, then what you can grow, soon it'll be what you can eat, how much you can weigh, and finally how much you can drink.

What's so special about having a bunch of ****** grass that you have to mow? Give me some hostas and prairie plantings that take care of themselves anyday.

    **** yeah

Re: WDM may ban front yard gardens

I'm sorry while I can see how people wouldn't like it... how can ONE person having an issue with their neighbor get an ordinance passed in a town of 57,000 people? That's asinine

The big fight in Iowa City right now is Urban Chickens (as many places, I'm sure). Was kind of siding with the pro chicken folks until I realized the ordinance would prevent you from butchering them...Well then there's no damn point, far as I'm concerned.

Tying these two posts together...if I had backyard chickens, and I shaved the male chicken...what would that do...anyone?
