But I agree with this from Luth. His shooting motion is a bit unorthodox - he doesn't seem to bend his elbow hardly at all and uses his shoulder a lot more than one would maybe like for the long term. His shot seems fairly effective as is. And it's certainly not the strangest shooting motion ever (Kenny Smith - sideways spin, really?)
As long as it goes in I don't care. lol Although that's something I would probably try to change as a coach. In my experience there is a right way to shoot and most things unorthodox are ineffective. I'm sure Fred will figure it out.

Re: RECRUITING: Nick Noskowiak on unofficial today

PGs (similarly to centers) are a premium. Not a lot of kids who can do the job well. It makes sense to take one every year. Also, you'll notice that the PGs the staff are targeting seem to be able to shoot. This is definitely the case with Noskowiak.

He's a soph, and he's 6'-3" - if he can handle and dish like a D1 PG at that size (or even larger) he'll be a beast. If he's more of a combo guard and can shoot - that works just fine in Fred's system.

Evan Flood mentioned this summer during AAU tourneys that he thinks Noskowiak will be a very highly sought recruit before it's all said and done. He's got another 2 yrs to be recruited.

I've seen a bit of Noskowiak's play. He's a junkyard dog. He's rugged/ physical. He is showing to be a good shooter. Most any team should want him.

We need someone like this on our team, especially a guard. Would help tremendously with defense.

While I agree that form is important, I think the most important thing is consistency. Is the motion repeated? Does he know where they ball will go? Proper form may add distance. Jim Furyk has an unorthodox golf swing but it is effective because it is consistent.

Agree. I don't gather that either of Morris or Custer will be physically overwhelming (offensively or defensively). (more bball IQ types). I think Noskowiak has the potential to be a "beat you up" type of guard.

For any recruit, if you're not on the coaching staff and say things like "we don't want him" or "no thanks"... well Will Ferrell said it best in Step Brothers. "Shut your mouth. You're just coming off stupid"

Re: RECRUITING: Nick Noskowiak on unofficial today

Just when I think the people on this site are smarter than the people on cyclone report, someone goes and posts this type of stuff.

I'm excited for Nick to be in Ames tonight. I'd been wondering what the deal was with him because I hadn't heard anything in a while about him.

The one thing that I tend to trust Fred and staff on is finding talent early. Matt Thomas blew up last summer. Georges did too. And Fred liked both of them before the other big dogs came sniffing around them. If Fred/TJ think this Nick kidn

Re: RECRUITING: Nick Noskowiak on unofficial today

Having 2 point guards on the floor that can shoot (really combo guards) can be such a huge advantage in this league considering some of the pressure you will see both full court and in the half court. When someone slaps the press on it is nice to have 2 options already on the floor for handling the ball and getting you into your offense. If you can have 2 pg's on the floor without giving up shooting and much for height I say why the hell not! All the more comfortable with it when you often run a 3 guard offense anyway.

Larry had a team with a 3 guard offense and he had three guys who either were pg's or played significant time at the point (Tinsley, obviously; Nurse who was the point the year before; and Horton who was the most solid combo guard at the point as you will find).

Of course that team didn't do ****.

"There are five real good recruits in the state. We got three of them. One couldn’t get into school, and the other went to (the University of) Iowa...which is about the same thing." - Coach Johnny Orr

Re: RECRUITING: Nick Noskowiak on unofficial today

A lot of people are spot on in saying Fred will likely sign a PG a year, can never have too many, especially if they can shoot and be combo guards. BTW, we just offered a 2016 PG Cassius Winston per Recruits List.
