Forced Upgrade of Big 12 Football Schedules

A football scheduling alliance with the SEC, ACC, Pac 12 would be great for Iowa State especially if it has a clause allowing teams with long standing out of conference rivalry games (like ISU) to opt out of the game if they wanted. It forces teams like K-State to at least have one real game on their non-con schedule and moves ISU up the bowl pecking order when Big 12 teams lose those games. It may also attract Fox-ESPN to want to add additional games/revenue to our contract depending on how many good games (there would definitely be some good games if it was with the SEC) were added.

Re: Forced Upgrade of Big 12 Football Schedules

I think the best thing that would happen from this a scheduling alliance with the SEC came from mrsec.com.

SEC has 4 teams with ACC rivals.

    South Carolina - Clemson
    Georgia - Georgia Tech
    Florida - Florida State
    Kentucky - Louisvillie

What if those schools all became Big 12 schools? Pick up Pitt for WVU and Miami too for 16.

Forcing the rest of the conference to play another BCS team and letting us just keep Iowa would be absolutely HUGE for us. Much more level playing field.

Re: Forced Upgrade of Big 12 Football Schedules

Would be great if this was a requirement. Would give cover to the whole conference to promote their OOC rivalries.

    Iowa State - Iowa
    West Virginia - Pittsburgh
    Oklahoma - Nebraska
Kansas - Missouri (will happen eventually)
Texas - Texas A&M (will also happen eventually)

Leaving Oklahoma State, Kansas State, TCU, Baylor, and Texas Tech to participate in the rotation with the other affiliated conferences.

Re: Forced Upgrade of Big 12 Football Schedules

Interesting that Tramel only lists ISU as having a OOC Rivalry game in the Big 12 (and the 4 teams you have listed for the SEC). That makes 9 teams available for the Big 12 and 10 teams available for the SEC.

If the Big 12 would agree to an alliance with the SEC, I would love to see Synder try and worm out of having to play an annual game with the SEC. He has absolutely no grounds to stand on with his OOC history.

Oklahoma State plays Mississippi State in Houston to open the 2013 season. In 2014, we play Florida State in Jerry's World.

Re: Forced Upgrade of Big 12 Football Schedules

I would like to see other schools in Big XII going against the other power conferences, but I still want ISU to be playing against Iowa in the future.

Me too, I was hoping for some pay back from 2002.
