    FB Roster Questions

Current roster lists 130 players. Dropping the seniors who are graduating/out of eligibility drops the number to 105. Adding the upcoming class puts it back around 130.

    1. Isn't there a team limit of 105 players for the season? What can the "cut" players do if they are still on the team?
    2. Isn't there a total roster limit these days to prevent the old NU trick of stockpiling talent that ride the pine instead of playing for the competition?
    3. The 2012 Freshman class has 35 players listed and red shirt freshmen has 22 players listed. That's 57 of 130 or 44% of current roster. Add in the incoming freshman class guessing 25 and that's approx. 78 (less JC's) of 130 players that will be Sophomores and Freshman or 60% of current roster. Is that typical or heavy on underclassmen? I'm guessing slightly heavy.
    4. Last one: Since ISU looks to be very young for 2013, I expect a season with more losses. Agree or disagree and why if disagree?

    Re: FB Roster Questions

The biggest trick I can remember the Fuskers pulling was putting their receivers on track scholarships to get around the scholarship limits. Of course the NCAA had to implement new rules to keep them from cheating - so they had to find other ways to cheat.

    Re: FB Roster Questions

To answer #4, I think we will have less losses. More guys that were Rhoads recruits will get playing time and I think we have our best coaching staff yet. Not to mention that Rhoads always seems to surprise the naysayers.

I agree with best coaching staff yet, but they don't play the game.

    1. There is no limit. However only 105 can go to 2 a days, but after that there can be as many as you want on the team.

    2. No there is a scholarship limit but no total limit. Hard to stockpile talent with 85 scholly's.

    Re: FB Roster Questions

    Just a thought...

    3. If you're counting incoming freshmen, you should also count incoming JC transfers among the upperclassmen. I'd also guess that, as with the overall college ratios, there are usually more frosh and sophs than juniors and seniors.

    4. Considering "Johnny Football", I don't think that youth will translate to more losses. IMO, there's more quality amongst the younger players than there has been...

    Re: FB Roster Questions

On #3, I did attempt to count incoming JC's.

On #4, coaches will tell you youth at skill positions have best chance to contribute right away, not in the trenches.

ISUFBCurt, so those not participating in 2 a days can still practice w/team rest of year and have access to coaching and weight/diet programs then?

Exactly my point, when we return four players with starting experience on the OL...

    Re: FB Roster Questions

Point 3. I think our class breakdown is fairly typical, particularly if you are including walk-ons. Very few walk-ons stay around through their Senior year, the vast majority are Freshmen and Sophomores.
