No it's not, you could put ttech's assistant coach down there as their head coach and would still get 4-5 star players because of North Carolina's brand.

If you ask the basketball analysts outside the state of Iowa I think you would be surprised to hear their responses. Iowa was pegged as a preseason top 5 team by one ESPN analyst and is ranked in the vast, vast majority of preseason top 25 polls

    Don't tell Matt Dougherty that.

Who cares how they do at UNC if he takes players we want? If they don't go to ISU I don't care how they do. The problem is that they still go there.

This is a Rashad Vaughn thread and whether Roy can coach or not is irrelevant. Can he recruit? A resounding yes.

    Re: Rashad Vaughn

I can guarantee Vaughn would not be making a mistake coming to ISU. He would play in a system where he will have the opportunity to score oodles of points and have a more than capable supporting cast to fill all the rest of the gaps. Look at Kentucky, there is no reason why they should even be on the bubble this year with the amount of talent they brought in and who was riding the pine last year. Yet there they are and you can't tell me having Noel would help them that much. UK lacks maturity plain and simple. Pretty much what I'm trying to say is that you don't have to go to a blue blood to be considered "great" or a "legend" and a system like ISU's is just as good of a venue to showcase your talents.

So he still has to worry about realignment...if UNC is picked up by BIG, then it would be dead ball basketball.

I bet Vaughn is fine with playing in the Big 10. His family could see every game on BTN. UNC will still sell them on their style. Recruiters have an answer for everything. It's not like UNC would end up in some non-BCS conference.

Pierce was an All American, MVP of the big 12 tourney twice I'm pretty sure and a top 10 pick. He did fine under Roy. Roy underachieved at KU no doubt but his problem was( and still is) always in the tourney. He hasn't flopped any more than say Coach K, or Boheim(sp)...we take anything related to Roy way too personal around here.

    Re: Rashad Vaughn

So with the implosion that is Gopher basketball this year, UNC uncertainties (conf realignment, etc) and the fact that they will just barely make it in the tournament, coupled with the fact that we have MAJOR talent coming on next year and 2014 to match the overall top offense in a power 6 conference in ISU...

Oh, and our coach puts guys in the NBA, has probably as many or more NBA contacts than Roy or Tubby. For a confessed one and done, that's gotta play too.

Is this really a hard decision for @ShowtimeMr????

ISU all the way. ESPECIALLY if we go as deep in the NCAA as my cardinal-colored glasses expect.

I don't see them playing a B1G schedule until RV is in the NBA. Even if they do, do you think UNC is scared to play in the B1G. As others have said, this would actually probably be a net plus for Vaughn. Besides, I can pretty much guarantee you that RV doesn't follow alignment.

Dude, I love Hoiberg and all, but do you think any recruit in the nation thinks Hoiberg can get him to the NBA better than Roy? UNC must have 15 players in the NBA. Hoiberg has 2 "quasi-NBA" players to tout.

    Re: Rashad Vaughn

I think it does help to see players like McLemore and Smart in the Big 12. They are freshmen that have come in and lead their teams, and are leading candidates for Big 12 and national players of the year.

No reason why RV could not come in here and do the same.

If Vaughn is as good as everyone thinks he is he should get to the NBA no matter who his coach is. I'm sure Vaughn isn't like "If I go to Iowa State there goes my NBA career."

Notice you said UNC, not Roy.
On a per 4-star or 5-star basis, it would not surprise me if ISU has a better success rate in getting such recruits to the NBA.

Of course Vaughn thinks he can go to the NBA at ISU. But it's silly to think ISU has an advantage over Roy/UNC in that category.
