Too bad he doesn't come back more often. I would love to see him back in Hilton for a game or two.

I remember him in the NBA, most specifically his free throw routine.

I never watched him at ISU and vaguely remember him in the NBA. None the less Hornacek is a boss and a Cyclone Legend. Just not much else to talk about with him anymore. He's not flashy or on TMZ, just living the retired NBA player lifestyle.

A lot can be said about the guy who has half the athleticism of the guys currently sitting on our bench but yet was able to be an NBA all-star.

Jeff was such an awesome Cyclone. His teams were significantly better just because he was on floor. Great clutch player. He might just be my first pick on a all-Cyclone team. He was that good in my opinion.

I wish JP would come up with some reason to recognize Jeff, at lets say the Kansas game. I know that wouldl fire me up. He shot the ball off a screen as good as anyone in the game, NBA that is. Loved to watch him play, and to think he was a walk on. Made a chunk of change because he was smart and could shoot lights out. He was a short Larry Bird. I know, most of you don't remember Larry Bird either. Man I'm getting old!

Remember the huge shot against Miami of Ohio in the tournament? It wasn't set up for any other player - it was set up for Jeff because he was such an accurate long range shooter. Having a long range shooter wasn't nearly as valuable of a weapon when it was only worth 2. Why settle for 40% of shots from today's 3 point range when you can get 50% of the 2 point shots when they are all worth 2? When you are getting 40% of those shots and they are worth 3 it changes the math quite a bit.

Same could be said for Gary Thompson. Dude was lethal but he would have dominated even more if some of his shots were worth 3 and they had even more reason they had to extend the D on him.
I remember that shot! I also remember another bomb he hit late in the game. Miami was in a 2-3 zone. Horny put on a wickeda$$ pass fake and the whole defense jumped about 2 steps. Left him wide open for that shot. I think that either tied it or put in the lead late in the game.

When people talk about all-ISU team, he has to be on there. Remember too he started his career as a walk-on at ISU and look how his career in college and the NBA turned out. Dude could flat out play.

Hornacek is my all-time fave, he is the epitome of Cyclone Basketball.
He also played a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. That is the reason he isn't discussed much.
But for those of us who witnessed his play, we will never forget him. So glad that his #14 hangs from the rafters.

If you were at the game you missed the great line from the TV announcers. "This looks like a jv playing against the varsity out there." EFF those guys. Hornacek was my favorite clone when I was a kid, he was also the only reason I ever cheered for an NBA team. Like alot of guys have said on here, damn I'm getting old.

WTF? Why don't we talk about Grayer more? Maybe because we live in the now. If we are spending more time talking about players from 30 years ago, then we likely have nothing to add about today's players, and that would be just sad.

If McDermott was still coaching our team, I can understand the request to talk more Grayer. We would be doing anything to get our minds off the boring team we would likely have had.

Re: Why so little love for Jeff ??????

I worked with a guy who played with Jeff on the Suns. I didn't tell him I was an ISU fan and asked him what he thought of him. He shook his head and said he couldn't believe how fast and accurate his passes were. Some may remember Larry saying when Tinsley got here guys would be hit in the head because they weren't ready for his passes that came out of nowhere so quickly. Jeff had the same ability.
