NOTEBOOK: Billy Fennelly press conference highlights (1-28-2013)

--- Points out that Kansas was in the Sweet 16 last year and “basically has their entire team back.”

--- The Allen Fieldhouse factor – a historic arena.

--- Fennelly says that Kansas has two “bigs” to go up against as opposed to one, which is the case with most of the teams Iowa State has played this season.

--- On Hallie Christofferson’s game lately…She is the “least maintenance human being I’ve ever been around.” --- She’s usually the last player to leave the gym for his team and works harder than most. She’s finally starting to be more of an assertive basketball player. Points out that she guarded West Virginia’s point guard and center, is versitile.

--- How important was the WVU win?

“It was a long week until those last 3 minutes.” <<< Good quote right there.

--- Fennelly said that the fact that the wrestling team was at the game Saturday night made things extra special. Apparently the wrestling team was there to high five the team after its win over the Mountaineers.

    --- On his team’s NCAA Tournament resume…

“I don’t think about it.” – Says he used to worry about that stuff all of the time. Basically, if his team does what it is supposed to do for the rest of the year, it should be fine.

No bad losses for Iowa State this year.

Chris, think you mean Bill, not Billy?

Anywho, as Cody Westerlund of the Ames Tribune said in his article today, Iowa State is sitting pretty good so far. The ladies are 14-4 with their four defeats coming from teams ranked in the top 25: two to No. 1 Baylor, one to No. 19 Ok. State, and then newly ranked Iowa (No. 24) without Poppens.

Some tough games to to go, but in a good spot overall.

Also, Iowa State could be 15-4 had the game against East Tennessee State been played in December.

Not only was the Iowa loss without Poppens, it started without Moody. It took a lot to get out of the hole that was dug to start the game. Bingley started, but you could tell she had already checked out of this team and was really no help at all. Iowa has been streaky, but they have pulled out some good wins. Everything considered, rivalry aside, the loss is not looking as bad.
