    Percy and Booker

Good win today but we got to have these two active and playing better. We are so limited when they are not able to put in quality minutes. If Ejim, Cly, or Niang get in foul trouble we have a lot of problems. Earlier in the season Niang and Percy could do a nice little high low, now they aren't seeing the floor to much. Ive seen them play good games and we need them to snap out of this funk. Going forward our success will eventually fall on if these two can step up. IMO.

    Re: Percy and Booker

Well, don't hold your breath. Booker is what he is. He's a 5th year senior, so he's not going to all of a sudden get better. He is the exact same player as he was last year.

Percy, seems to be in a SO slump and hopefully he can progress defensively between now and next year. I don't ever see him getting more than 5-10 min/game if he can't improve his D. Offensively he seemed to flash at times last year, but maybe that was just an extension of RW being such a mismatch for teams and Percy was the recipient of some great passes after his man was drawn away for a split second.

Either way, he seems to be in a slump offensively this year and when you add in his horrible D, he's just a spot duty guy that can relieve Niang.

    Re: Percy and Booker

Problem with Percy is he puts it up every time he gets the ball. He doesn't care if the shot's not there. He puts it up anyway. KState brought a double down on him today and he lost the ball. Think teams are going to start doing that a lot more as they have seen his willingness to throw up terrible shots regardless of the defense.

    Re: Percy and Booker

They didn't play much today because of matchups. I think we wanted to keep Henriquez off the floor and he could only guard Percy or Booker. Because of that they played small the whole game which was good for us as we had matchup advantages at the 3 and 4

I would have thought Booker would had more minutes after the performance of the team and individuals last week.

    Re: Percy and Booker

I am getting so sick and tired of Percy going for a shot every time he gets the ball. I'm not sure he knows he is allowed to pass it up. I am so thankful we have Niang this year or we would have some serious problems down low.

If the season ended today Percy would be a slam dunk for #1 disappointment of the season. Hope he can turn it around because we are going to need him the next two years.

    Re: Percy and Booker

yeah, sucks that Percy fell off from last year...He just needs to be a gym rat the rest of the year and work his butt off to get better. SERIOUSLY Percy, you cannot do a left hand shot inside EVERYTIME you are passed the ball down low. Defenses have caught on to what you do and if you are a big man in Fred's offense and cannot pass out -- you don't play. And Booker has to find a way to contest and defend without fouling or doing what will get you called for a foul everytime he enters the game.

Huge props to Niang for taking a charge on Spradling's dumb drive where he just left his feet. I've been on our team all year for not taking charges, still would like to see more from our help D.

    Re: Percy and Booker

It really is amazing what a good basketball IQ will do for you. Niang has one and Percy doesn't.

Is Percy talented? Yes, he's very talented. So is Niang. But Niang has a much higher basketball IQ. Niang gets it in there and knows what to do with it. He knows if he's got an advantage on a defender and knows to take it at him. And he also knows when he's being doubled, or if he just doesn't have an advantage, and he finds the open man and dishes it back out of there.

Percy only knows that he's going to shoot it everytime he gets it down low no matter what. He can't feel or read the defense at all. He needs to learn this or it will be a long final 2 years here for him IMO.

    Re: Percy and Booker

Have you ever played a basketball video game and had the button to shoot be stuck?

    It's like watching Percy play.

Combine that with the fact he might as well donate his right hand to science and I can't imagine it's too hard to guard him with a good scouting report.

If Booker was eligible to transfer I think he would have been gone at semester.

    Re: Percy and Booker

I feel very differently about Booker and Gibson. Booker is what he is and he's running out of time. He's good for giving someone a breather and that's about it. I hate to say that, but we all see his play and his attitude doesn't earn him much forgiveness.

Percy, on the other hand, is only a soph. I like his motor and he's shown potential, if only in flashes. He has some moves under the hoop and showed last year he can hit the short jumper. He's just in a funk. If he can become more disciplined in deciding when to try and score it and when to kick it, that would go a long way. I think he will be a very solid contributor in his 3rd and 4th year.

Gibson looked good at Wells Fargo at the start of the game against Drake. I thought the refs took him out of the game. He started on a nice roll for us in that game.

I still think Booker's contribution at the end of the season will be one of the factors that related closely with how deep we go in the NCAA tournament.
