    Braves Trade for Justin Upton

The Atlanta Braves have acquired Justin Upton from the Arizona Diamondbacks - sources - ESPN

This deal likely gives them the best defensive AND offensive outfield in baseball. Hurts a bit to see Prado go, but he'd be gone after the coming year anyway. The lineup is now powerful enough that watching them compete with the pitchers of the Nationals this year is going to be exciting.

I'd say the Angels have them beat in both with a starting outfield of Hamilton, Trout, and Bourjos.

Too bad they lose Prado, the guy did everything.

That's possible. Probably depends on which JUpton you get - 2011 or 2012. Both are going to be great and improving still.

Agreed. He was a backup/emergency plan at every position. Played every infield position last year at a high level.

It's a great outfield and should definately help with the team defense for the pitching staff. I'll wait to see what people think of the prospects Atlanta gave up before judging the deal but it's cool that the two brothers will be playing together.

Love the trade for the Braves, hate it for the DBacks. I don't really understand what they're doing this off season.

Re: Braves Trade for Justin Upton

I don't understand at all why the D'Backs were so intenet on trading Upton... It will be interesting to see if some of Justin's work ethic rubs off on his older brother with them playing next to each other, will certainly be an interesting dynamic... Guarantee they get in at least one fight with each other!

B.J. is the bigger question mark offensively. He might hit 25 HRs, but if he puts up another .298 OBP that's not exactly going to help the team much. Even if Justin doesn't hit 30+ HRs again, you at least know you're going to get a .350+ OBP out of him and he's only 25.

Well, they didn't give up Teheran or Gilmartin, who they view as their top two pitching prospects. Ahmed is going to be good, but not as good as Simmons, so he'd never start in ATL. Drury is solid, but a project at 3B. Spruill struggled at AA a bit last year, and he's 23, so he has to make a jump soon. Overall, adding Prado saved them some good prospects.

Keith Law crushed Arizona for this deal. Says they sold Upton for 50 cents on the dollar. Sounds like the Braves got a steal.

Not an Insider, but the beginning sounds good to me.

Keith Law gets stuck on talent and talent alone. Addition by subtraction here. Justin Upton is a mental midget that brought guys around him down.

All I know is somebody is going to get Michael Bourn CHEAP.

The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.

Ha! You could not be any more wrong about Upton... Nobody wants Bourn because nobody wants to lose their draft pick, thats why trade pieces are more valuable than ever and the D'Backs failed to cash in.

I trust his judgement on prospects.

I agree with you on Bourn. Phillies just make so much sense for him and all the other potential suitors seem to be landing other players.
