Saban sticks foot in mouth after loss

FOX Sports on MSN - COLLEGE FOOTBALL - Saban says 'Bama loss a 'catastrophic event'

Wow, Alabama losing is slightly different than a couple thousand Americans dying, but ok.

Sadly, very very sadly, there are probably more than a handful of people who would think that way down in Alabama.

Re: Saban sticks foot in mouth after loss

Not the best choice of words but it's not much different than a coach saying how his team will be in for a war on Saturday. Just about every coach has said that at one time or another. I've never been offended by it, that's just me. In our little fan world we tend to live in losing a game like that or us losing to Kent State or UNI feels "catastrophic" for a short time. Atleast until you realize it's only college football. :)

Nick Saban Compares Alabama Loss to 9/11?

    Anybody else see this...

ESPN - Catastrophe? Saban uses history to make point - College Football

And EIU thinks losing to Western Michigan is bad?

Whoops. Didn't realize it had already been posted. Still...Saban is nuts.

Re: Saban sticks foot in mouth after loss

I've become jaded after listening to the "Germans bombing Pearl Harbor" analogy so many times in these types of situations.

I assume that the players have also based on this quote from the article: "Saban also addressed the issue of apathy among players. He said the team consists of players who care and those who don't."

I heard that saying a little differently. I heard it as: There are two types of people in this world; those who divide people into two groups and those who don't.

Re: Saban sticks foot in mouth after loss

If you guys saw the actual interview on ESPN last night, you would know that his statements were very much taken out of context. Once again yet another idiotic reporter(s) was getting under the skin of a head coach, and while he said things he probably shouldn't have said because it left himself open to criticism, the message of his rant was not the implied message the media made it out to be. The message in context (although he bungled it a little bit) was that there were greater tragedies in this world right now, but yet the media was treating the loss to LA-Monroe (or whichever school it was) in that same category . He went on to further rip them a new one for criticizing Saban's approach about not taking the low road and implementing a "win at all cost" approach to rebuilding the program and that he was going to build the program "the right way" (something we all can pretty much guarantee folks in Alabama know very little about).

We've all bungled what we're trying to say in public - Saban just happened to do it in front of a media that's already ready to crucify him for the loss to LA-Monroe. But after listening to the full interview I actually have more respect for him now than I did prior to it. Seriously - reserve your judgments on this issue until you actually watch what happened.

So why did Alabama lose? I thought they had talent. Was it the playcalling or the coaching or the player desire?

Sounds like they come out flat. But that would be copy right infringement since another team has trademarked that phrase.

Re: Saban sticks foot in mouth after loss

Pearl Harbor kind of got us ready for World War II, or whatever, and that was a catastrophic event.
And then, like, we totally went to go fight them, and junk.
