If you want to see somebody get on their knees for the B1G. Check out Derek Martin's daily blogs at kmaland.com (where Chris Williams used to work). He's the head sports guy, nice guy, but it gets comical.

I really like him as a local broadcaster in my area so i'm not trying to put him down, but he really hates on the Big 12 and loves the Big Ten.

But honestly, I've not seen enough of Iowa State to make a fair assessment. Covering Iowa for the newspaper leaves me with less time to see other teams play. Maybe they're a better team now, maybe not. But I'm not going to make a statement I'm far from qualified to make.

If the two teams who met on December 7 played 10 times on a neutral floor, I'd probably give the edge to Iowa, 6-7 wins. But Iowa's not the same team they were then, and I'm sure ISU isn't, either.
I'm not so sure Iowa would win 6 or 7 times out of 10? Maybe, but so could ISU IMO.

ISU played probably their worst game of the year by far in IC, and still nearly came away with a win. Our leading scorer had zero points that night and looked completely un-interested in playing for some reason?

I think Iowa is a pretty darn good team this year, but I think ISU is too now. I could see them both making the tourney, but Iowa might have a tougher road since they play in a much tougher conference.

Kinda like us in football... we play a much tougher schedule than Iowa, so it's tougher for us to make a bowl than it is for Iowa.

It's nice to see you saying something positive about Iowa State. Now, just promise me you won't meltdown if we don't beat Tech by 30, please?

Yes. Big East of a few years back when they put 11 in the tourney may have been the best bball league ever.

I'd agree with this. The fact that what, the 9th best team (UCONN) won the whole thing was a testament to the league's depth. Although I can't stand Syracuse; quite possibly the biggest disappointment come tourney time, seemingly every year since they won it in '03.

Very true about Syracuse. A lot of the die-hard 'cuse fans think Boeheim "went soft" after 2003 and lost his edge. They're like the Death Star of college basketball lately...you hate to be up against them, but they always seem to have an exploitable weak spot.

    Re: Hoks don't lack confidence

    Just an update

    ISU 16-6 RPI-35th SOS-66th

    Iowa 14-8 RPI-92nd SOS 98th

But hey look at the bright side, the Hoks aren't losing games by as much as they used to. Gotta give credit to the NBA talent on the roster in Marble and Woodbury there.

Honest question, how is their SOS so low? I thougth the B1G was the ultimate Basketball Superconference this year? That's all I've been hearing here in Chicago, how all the teams are great.

They only play MSU, OSU, Michigan once while playing the (other) turds of the conference twice. Couple that with their weak non-con.

I don't follow them enough to realize this. Wow, they got a pretty easy schedule this year in both football and basketball and didn't do much with it.

    Re: Hoks don't lack confidence

They have the easiest schedule of any big ten team this year and their non conf schedule was pathetic. Their best win this year is still ISU at home in a rivalry game...

I was looking at their SOS the other day and had the same question you did so I looked up their schedule. They dodged a bullet this year in basketball. Their SOS is also the reason why they won't get into the tourney with a 9-9 Big 10 record.
