    What's next?

There's no sense writing anything about Baylor. We've covered them ad nauseam. The challenge Wednesday will be something beyond winning. It will be coming back from the butt whooping OSU laid on this team this past weekend. As I wrote in the summary, that type of game can impact the psyche. Do you lose faith the next time you get down? Do you come out against Baylor and lay down from the start? I personally think this team is stronger than that. I think we will see fight in them on Wednesday. Will it be enough against the best team in the country?

What follows are road trips to two tough matchups. This weekend its our first trip as a conference foe to WVU. They started the season ranked and made it as high as #12. They lost perhaps their best player in center Aysa Bussie, a 1000 point, 500 rebound senior. They hit a few road bumps (including common foe losses to Iowa, Oklahoma and Baylor), fell out of the top 25 and yet remain very dangerous. Their 3 Big 12 wins are against the worst teams in the conference (KState, TCU and Texas). All games have been relatively close (even Baylor was only an 18 point loss at Waco). This may be the kiss of death saying so, but they aren't a 3 point shooting team. They have one player - Taylor Palmer (35%) who has shot a decent number of 3's. Three players in the low double figure range. They outscore opponents 65-57 on average and narrowly outrebound other teams. Big stat? ELEVEN steals per game. The Sisters, especially Moody, are going to have to be on this game.

Follow WVU with a trip to the pit of the midwest - Kansas. To me this will always be the birthplace of thugball under Marion Washington. (OK, no venting now...) The Jayhawks sit at 11-5 (2-3 conf) with losses to Baylor, OSU, and TTech with wins at home against WVU and KState. This is a team that returned most of its power from last year's run through the NCAA tournament and has been ranked all year until this week when they dropped out. They are dangerous at home (9-1 losing to Baylor). This is an inside power team and are even less likely to be a 3 point threat than WVU. Yet, I remember last year when I felt that way and they lit us up from outside. The biggest names we all will never miss are Carolyn Davis and Angel Goodrich. They are back and are the top scorers for KU. Davis is a powerhouse player and hard to contain. Just an outstanding all conference player. Interestingly, nothing stands out about this team. They barely outscore and out rebound their opponents. Essentially a solid team tough at home and struggles on the road. This is going to be a grind it out type of game, very physical, and one in which we had better be able to score and play solid D or else. Like OSU, we've not had overly good luck in Lawrence lately.

The team needs to shrug off the OSU loss, reset their feet and grit their teeth with determination during the next week. If they do, if they re-assert themselves...going 2-1 is a very possible result.

    Re: What's next?

Baylor has played a little sleepy and uninspired the last few games. If they could be beat, now is time.

What's next? Everything is up to date in Kansas City. They've gone about as fer as they should go. They went and built a skyscaper seven stories tall, about as high as a building ought to go!....
