    Jok recruitment

Jok has really made me a believer. He put up 41 last night. He is going to be a solid player for Iowa unfortunately.

I know we had interest before he had knee issues. Why didn't we offer? I'm not saying it was a huge mistake, but it seems like he may have been worth the risk. Hindsight is 20/20, but it looks like he could have been a good fit.

I don't bring my own opinions, just attack others.

For somebody that's seen them play this year, is Jok a better player than Jeremy Morgan? Are they different types of players?

    Re: Jok recruitment

Time will tell. I don't know his game but from the looks of him he's an outside player, and our long term needs are more in the front court IMO. I am excited about Custer, Thomas, Morris and Dorsey Walker. I think we are in good shape in the backcourt.

I would say the chances are just as good that Fran might have wished he would have gone after Morris

I'm guessing it's going to be tough to recruit anyone from Valley with Horner unless they hate him.

    Re: Jok recruitment

I think in hindsight, Fred might be wishing he'd went after Jok? I mean, we had 6 schollies to hand out, I think he would have been worth a shot. I think he's probably better than Hogue for sure, but we shall see?

But I also bet Franny is kicking himself for not going after Matt Thomas and Monte Morris too. And I'm glad we got Niang over Iowa as well. So it all works itself out. I think I'd like to have Woodbury too, but there was NO way in the world he was going to come to ISU, so why bother.

    Re: Jok recruitment

The CIML or whatever the new conferences are, aren't the greatest indicators of how well a players game will translate to the next level. I mean, most players that are 6'4 or taller play center at the high school level in Des Moines. Im not saying he won't be good because he probably will be, but i think id be more impressed if he was performing at that level in AAU against all DI athletes. Correct me if Im wrong but who else from the Des Moines area has a DI offer or is going to a BCS level school?

When his knee blows out again in pre-season next year we won't be caring about not bringing him in. Shaky knees are shaky.

Hard to say if Hogue is better than Jok but Iowa only went hard after Jok after they missed out on Hogue. So it would seem both Fran and Fred agree Hogue was the more valuable prospect.

And yet there are thousands of athletes who recover from major knee injuries just fine. Good morning to you too, Sunshine!

Jok was a bit of a risk for Iowa but I do think he's going to be damned good. That said, I'm not disappointed in our class at all. We're doing just fine.

I understand the risk involved with his knee, BUT we had 6 scholarships to give out. I'm just saying that his bad knee was probably not enough of a risk to at least give him one of our 6 offers?

And I think Jok would have definately went to ISU over Iowa if he would have had an ISU offer. That's what everyone in the know was saying anyway.

You're right, he'll probably be fine, if you're looking for a stand still 6'7" 3 point specialist that isn't suited to guarding any position on the court.

    Re: Jok recruitment

He's a great shooter, but his athleticism is still not back. He is also has pretty slow feet and is not the best ball
handler. He will be solid for Iowa, but not great.

This. If you haven't noticed, Fred is slowly balancing the class loads out now after infusing as much talent as possible the first year with transfers. In the next year or two, the class loads should be balanced out where we aren't losing a major chunk of our team to graduation. It should be interesting to see the type of classes ISU pulls in once the class loads balance out and Fred is able to use all of the scholarships on kids out of high school.

Look at Iowa. They only had 1 scholarship to hand out for next year. If Jok turns out to be a bust, there goes that whole recruiting class.

So frickin jealous of what they have in Ames. It's truly amazing what Fred has done coming in with 0 coaching experience.

I'm going to trust that CFH knows what he's doing. I'm so happy with Niang, I'm looking for more guys of that quality.

    Re: Jok recruitment

Jok is a project at the moment. He can shoot, but thats easy to stop if he can't do much of anything else. The coaching staff is going to have to coach him up plenty when he gets to Iowa. Also...anyone know how his defense is? That is obviously a big part of the game.
