    Just bought a gun!!!!

This is NOT a gun-control thread UNLESS you are providing shooting drills to make many bullet go into a very small circle.

Been knocking around the idea of getting another handgun (had an old SW 686 YEARS ago) for awhile so I MIGHT admit to pulling the trigger on the deal based on the rhetoric from both sides.

Anyway, wanted a Glock 17 (or maybe 19) Generation 4 but there are non-existent. Cabellas can't keep them in stock. In fact, the gun shops I went to were having a hard time keeping the QUALITY 9mm stocked.

I ended up with the S&W M&P 9 Pro. Full size frame but still light like the Glocks. Gun holds 17+1 and has the various sizes of backstraps to somewhat customize the fit.

5 day waiting period started yesterday (Tuesday) and my wife and i have a date night at the gun range NEXT Tuesday night. Pretty sexy date night, huh? I know how to treat a lady!

Anyone have firing experience with the M&Ps? I tried to make sense of the various reviews since by-and-large nobody had anything bad to say about any gun so I went with a trusted name and relied on a gun enthusiast's recommendation.

Also a little ammo shortage in these parts (Eastern Washington)...

    Re: Just bought a gun!!!!

Love my Glock 19, and you'll love your S&W as well, I'm sure.

I was lucky enough to find mine through a private seller and got it pretty cheap compared to what Scheel's or others around here would charged. Haven't gotten to shoot it much, but it's a comfy piece and very reliable.

Really want to get a 1911 sometime. They just have a classic look and feel to them. My only issue is that with being a lefty, there aren't many ambidextrous units out there, so I just had to nut up and get the gun that felt the best in my hand.

    Re: Just bought a gun!!!!

    I got an M&P 40 a little over a year ago & love it!

It feels great in my hand & haven't had a single misfire or jam after ~500 rounds. Before I purchased it I saw a lot of people who said 40 cal pistols have a lot of recoil, but I sure don't notice it much. This was my first gun purchase & I'm extremely pleased. Luckily I bought a few extra 15 round mags awhile back, because they are impossible to find anymore. I'd love to buy an AR for recreational purposes, but I'm not sure that will be possible.

    Enjoy your purchase!

Sorry, newbie here. Where are the gun ranges around Des Moines? The only one I know about is over in Boone.

Nice update, SpokaneCY. I have a question. Does CF look like Facebook to you? Are you going to start posting when you take a big dump too?

    Re: Just bought a gun!!!!

Recently picked up a Ruger SR9c. Like the conceal ability and came highly recommended from multiple gun "sites". (No pun intended)

Ike's in Ames has a great range as well as a five lane indoor range.

There is a public range south of Indianola and southwest of Milo that is privately owned. I think it's called Central Iowa Shooting Sports. Very nice covered shooting area to an outdoor range. It's run by an old fella in a wheel chair and his wife. He has an arsenal down there. I went down there on a Groupon deal for $30. Got a 90 minute shooting lesson and they provided gun and ammo. Although I used my own gun.

I'm left handed hand shoot a 1911 .45. Love it, most accurate hand gun I've ever picked up. I had a 4" grouping with the first clip I ran through it.

That rug really tied the room together, did it not dude?

I've got the S&W M&P 9c. Compact version of the 9mm that I will carry on occasion. Good shooting gun, nice and accurate. You'll love it! Congrats!

Oh yeah, and in before the inevitable cave.

I'm against any kinds of social media.

And no I can't explain why this doesn't count!

Honestly trying to spark more reasonable chats on things LIKE gun control. I COULD do a favorite cereal thread, but someone else probably has that covered. But Capn Crunch w/crunch berries.
