Re: The effects of having Bubu back

After reading the article/interview with Peterson Peterson: Palo will provide more than depth for Iowa State men's basketball team

I gotta believe he is gunna be hungrier than ever before. A motivated and inspired Bubu could actually improve this team's chemistry.

Remember his teammates are more than likely also his best friends and were pulling for him to get back on the team. Now that he is, Maybe they all play a bit harder.

Piecing together the pluses, even 10 minutes of in-shape Bubu is a definite bump. Capable of running point to spell Lucious and solid defender to back Babb, plus getting to the hoop and drawing fouls.

It also can let Lucious go more full-out while he's on the floor, and could take more chances on defense because foul trouble won't be as much risk (same could apply w/ Babb).

Bubu will be key for next year, especially until Jones can play.

I don't think Bubu will hurt team chemistry. He is a "team first" type of player who emphasizes defense/ball control over scoring. Last season, he was starting to develop a reliable outside shot, so that may be a drop off from Lucious a bit as he has been shooting the 3 well.

I would like to try some full court pressure with KL, Bubu, McGee, Babb, and (Niang or Melvin) all on the court together. Talk about some quickness on defense. I know we would be small, but all these guys other than KL rebound really well.

That FT impact will also be key at the end of tough games. He can come in when we know teams are going to foul and provide another shooter with good ball handling skills.

That's another element w/ possibility of Bubu gettin some backup minutes — if Fred wants to go with pressure and up-tempo, shaving some minutes from KL/CB could allow going to that more often.

The fact that half-court game has shown signs of improvement, throw that into the mix: Dangerous.

Monte will most likely be forced in to action with what we have coming back next year so it will be nice to allow Custer to have some time to be accustomed to college and Big 12 basketball as a freshman. Not all top 100 freshman are going to be Niang's and be able to compete at this level right away, but if they are, GREAT!
A lot of people have been concerned with the "logjam" at the guard position, but it's a NICE "problem" to have, don't you think? It wasn't that long ago that we had situations where we were concerned about filling a roster. I DON'T ever want to go back to that.

Utah Utes, Illinois Illini. The University of Pennsylvania thought about following this pattern by calling themselves the Pennsylvania Pencils. However, they were afraid their students would start chanting "We're No. 2"

I agree with this. Also, since he is quoted in the paper saying what a great guy Cruise is, I hope he doesn't bring that influence to his teammates.

Yeah, because there is no worse influence on teammates than a guy who stands up for his friend, even during hard times...

I really don't think our basketball team needs to hang with a felon who gets into multiple physical altercations with cops.

The fact that Bubu stood up for his friend somehow makes you worry about his influence on his teammates?

And you really don't think any of the players have any friends who have ever been in trouble with the law? Its a basketball team, not a church choir. And who the hell during college/high school didn't have any acquaintances who ever got in trouble? That's just a part of life.

I had far too many shady friends in college.
