NOTEBOOK: Kevin Jackson press conference nuggets (1-14-13)
The Cyclones went 3-0 over the weekend...
--- Jackson is very happy with the way that his team is competing - or at least did over the weekend. He saw progress. He looks forward to it continuing.
--- Jackson said that his team did the attacking instead of waiting to be attacked. "They are wrestling like Cyclones." --- He's seeing more attitude and intensity in his team. He's seen improvement in every match since the Iowa match.
--- "We're going to be pretty good when you start thinking about 7 underclassmen..."
--- Jackson said that his young team needed experience, which it has gotten early this season. He's really starting to see this team bond together, which increases expectations within the team.
--- Says that the team learned a lot from losing to Iowa. The Cyclones weren't expected to win many of those matches but they didn't compete like they should have. Again, points out the 7 sophomores and freshmen who are learning and getting better every day.
--- Praises Mike Moreno and how far he has come. Points out that he jokes with Mike that he is better than his dad was (his father, Mike, also wrestled and was an All-American at Iowa State).
Re: NOTEBOOK: Kevin Jackson press conference nuggets (1-14-13)
This stretch of the Penn dual got me excited for the rest of the season
165 Michael Moreno (ISU) MD Casey Kent 11-3
174 Tanner Weatherman (ISU) PIN Harrison Cook 2:32
184 Boaz Beard (ISU) D Canaan Bethea 4-3
197 Kyven Gadson (ISU) D Micah Burak 3-1 sv
Moreno could have just held on for a decision, which I think earlier in the season, many of our guys would have done.
Tanner was extremely agressive in working for the fall
Boaz battles thru a guy that is being defensive and gets a takedown with 3 seconds left to win
Kyven continues to impress with another big victory over a top 10 guy after being hurt and out all last year.
I'm proud of how these guys are battling now.
