I haven't had furniture delivered in some time, but if someone came to deliver a dresser or bed or what have you I'd give them $10 or so just as a thank you for me not having to do it myself.

Call me cheap, that is fine. But in the end, it is my money, and I will spend it how I see fit. I budget myself pretty damn well, and have made financial decision in life that reflect the amount of money I earn, and what I can and cannot expend. Ill be damned if I'm going to pay a $2-$3 delivery fee, and then turn around and tip another $2-$3 to have my $15 pizza delivered less than a mile to my front door. If the pizza place wants to discontinue delivering pizza to me because they charge me a delivery fee and I don't tip their driver, that is their call.

I wasn't insulting you personally. If you can't tip financially, go pick it up or don't order a pizza. I view it the same as not being able to afford the pizza itself. JMHO. Because typically delivery drivers lose money on transactions that they don't receive a tip.

This is good advice. I think a lot of people want to look like they know what they're doing so they don't ask. But I got over trying to appear cool a long time ago. If I find myself in a potential tipping situation I'm unsure about, I'm not shy about saying,"Hey, I've never done this before. What do most people give you?"

My wife has a rich aunt/uncle who maintain residences in Chicago and New York. The Chicago place is a house, the NYC place is a high-rise condo that they haven't had for very long. Around Christmas last year the uncle learned you're supposed to give the doorman an annual tip. He had no idea what to give the guy so he asked and it turned out most people gave a certain percentage of their rent, which ended up being [EDIT] in the hundreds. From every person in the building. I could open doors for that.

I'm not saying I cant afford it, I just don't see the need to spend $6 total to have my pizza delivered. If the pizza company is charging a delivery fee, and its not going towards the delivery of the pizza, what is it going to?

Where i worked the delivery drivers made more hourly wage than those who stayed in.

I swear Davincis was like that. Pretty sure the kitchen staff was always up in arms about that.

No ****... But if you spend your own gas on deliveries and don't get tipped you lose money on that transaction, even if you make more money from taking tips on other transactions than a person who doesn't take trips. Or are you saying they actually raised your wage based on how many trips you took, because thats a good idea, but not very common I don't think.

At least IIRC, has been a while though.

With a delivery fee, I probably wouldn't tip anymore than 10% and would probably max out around $3 unless it is a huge order, but that is me personally.

I don't have a problem with you not tipping because I feel that it should be based on the level of service you receive. If I feel I received terrible service, I don't feel bad about not leaving a tip. If I feel I had great service then I don't have a problem leaving 20%. I probably tend to overtip but I probably tip in some situation many people don't. I guess I feel there have been times when I have thought because I tend to tip that I have received better service over someone that might not tip at all or as much.
