    2013 Linebackers and D

I thought Klein played OK but where was George today! We lose a lot on D for next year and I don't see anyone stepping in and filling Knott and Klein spots. We looked slow today and poor tackling by everyone. We need 2 linebackers to fill some voids.

    Re: 2013 Linebackers and D

Broomfield coming back is about the only kid that gives me any confidence. George played good against Baylor but has looked poor most of the rest of the time he's been on the field. We lose our best dlinemen and corners which doesn't bode well for our pass defense. I'm sure by the end of spring we'll all feel better, but it's a little scary right now who we're going to expect to get it done against Big 12 offenses next year.

    Re: 2013 Linebackers and D

Our biggest problem these last few years have been the D-Line, who just got pushed around by a C-USA squad. (By the way, this is Tulsa's second win in 10 years against a BCS conference school.)

    Re: 2013 Linebackers and D

It makes me sick. Iowa State had a first team All Big 12 D lineman, and TWO linebackers, and now they are gone. And the best we got is 6-7.

Tulsa abused Morton to the point we put in Miller. Then they abused him.

Ya, next year could be pretty brutal, if we can't make some big strides on offense. I would be shocked if our D didn't take a step back next year.

    Re: 2013 Linebackers and D

Broomfield and Washington are solid coming back, Watson is ok....other than that, I think most spots will be up for some fierce competition next spring. It should be an interesting offseason finding out who will fill those spots. This game should have been tailor made for George to play well but he step up. I'm not sure he and Miller can be the type of LB this defense needs, either way I think they'll get a lot of criticism next year trying to fill the void left by Knott and Klein.

He was faked out too much. Knott was needed to stop the run.

When Morton went out, I was almost surprised Tulsa's RB did not run to the ISU bench on the next play.

    Re: 2013 Linebackers and D

LBer position scares the crap out of me next year, JG is a good player but he is nowhere close to the skill set of AK and JK, Miller though he statistically had a decent amount to tackles in the game was definitely not the aggressor that I would like him to be as a backup, I know sometimes linebackers over-think their position and thus it takes them longer to just play, like they really need to... Though Morgan is roster-wise an LB I always see him as more of a Nickel hybrid player. The Freshmen White, Knott and Seeley bring depth but are un-proven. Webster, Meeks, and Mills will be true-freshman, but what I was really hoping to see was a JUCO LB in this class, I know Meeks is an early enrollee and has the size, athleticism, and game knowledge to possibly contribute right away, but I really think red-shirting these 3 would definitely help us down the road. I know that everyone is paranoid of the loses we have on Defense, I am definitely one, more from the leadership and expericence perspective than anything. I know that the Wizard will work with whatever he has and may definitely find a way, but this is my biggest position concern.

    Re: 2013 Linebackers and D

I'm sort of worried about this. Then I remember the 09/10 rosters and realize somehow, we were OK and I know we have mroe all around talent now. Linebacker is different. I have a wish. My wish is for CJ Morgan to grow by about 15 lbs, have everything click and move to WLB. He's a linebacker by skillset. That's why he doesn't play as much as Broomfield. If he could do that, it would be huge. It won't happen, I'm well aware of that. So, we have George for sure at MLB. Brromfield/Morgan at SLB or whatever you want to call it and one spot left. I'd say Miller right now but evidently Luke Knott is pretty damn good and is growing. I think White and Seeley could be players and I see Meeks not redshirting so there are options. There is talent there. If someone can just emerge and we dodge injuries, I think we can be OK. We don't know much outside of Jensen for the interior line. That could be good or bad. I'm not to worry about losing Reeves. I just think someone will be sufficient there. I'm guessing Lynn, Rogers and Richardson will compete until gameday for that spot. Oh and Lawry. I'm just not worried about DB at all. That should be our strength.

It's all snark from here on out
