Re: Royce refuses to play in D League

I'm very disappointed for Royce. He has talent beyond belief, yet emotionally he wasn't ready to make the jump to NBA. I don't know what our staff did for counseling. I'm sure it was better than what the Rockets have provided because he PLAYED for our team. Yet most of us know that there is a world of difference between college jobs and our life afterward. Still I wonder if the Cyclone staff could have helped just a little more by counseling Royce to stay at ISU for another year for the sake of emotional maturity?

I think he jumped too early.
To be fair, Fred was always saying that he needed to go but that was probably because he knew he was leaving anyway.

I'm just shocked that Royce still has Twitter followers on this board. OP should add a poll to this asking who's unfollowed RW lately.

Re: Royce refuses to play in D League

There was some interview just before Royce declared where he dropped the idea that turning pro might be better for the ISU team and avoid chemistry issues with this year's team. It confused us then, and it's been a curiosity ever since.

It really might be best for us in particular that this is happening in Houston, although this is a sad story.

    I unfollowed him fairly recently.

I heard, from a source, that Royce was "uncoachable". I heard this last year before the first game and alwayas thought about poking fun at the guy who told me. He may have been right, at that particular time, and the staff figured out how to handle it. Ultimately, it may not have even been true but the guy had absolutely no reason to lie. It was at that same time that he told me Sledge was a "miss" by the staff and would ultimately transfer.

Twitter just seems like a bad medium in general. Too brief to say anything meaningful, and when you try to say something meaningful it's meaning is fuzzy. Like trying to text message an important piece of information, I'd rather just call.

I don't follow him. I go to clutchfans once in a while to see what Rockets fans think.

There is a post where DraftExpress talk to Royce about what's going on. About 20-30 tweets back and forth on the subject.

The tweet was interesting imo because I think he could do pretty much anything he wanted besides obvious (stealing, DUI,etc.). I do agree he's being cryptic about everything which doesn't make sense.

Re: Royce refuses to play in D League

Ultimate Rockets Anderson signs with Rockets, bringing a head start as he plays catch up
Anderson returned to the NBA on Wednesday, signed by the Rockets in time for the morning shootaround. Suddenly, those weeks in the D-League had value. Some of the terminology is different, but the Vipers run many of the Rockets’ sets and many of their out of bounds plays. Anderson won’t get much practice time to adjust. The Rockets’ practice on Thursday will likely be their only practice for several weeks. But as he began cramming studies of the Rockets’ system, he found it familiar given his brief, otherwise forgettable stint with the Vipers.

Re: Royce refuses to play in D League

Remember the high school basketball player the had autism, J-Mac? ESPN did a piece on him. When describing how he felt compared to other "normal" players, he said "It's not a really big deal at all, I'm normal just like all the other people. It's just the way I am." Royce could probably learn something from that kid.
