Big 12 Conference Scheduling Hurts Iowa State

Who thinks it's time for the Big 12 Conference to do away with its current system of allowing the SAME teams to get a Bi-week during the season every year just so they can play their precious rivalry games the Friday or Saturday after Thanksgiving?

Kansas vs. Missouri -- This game has been worthless until this year.
Texas vs. Texas A&M -- This game has been worthless for a few years now.
Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State -- Becoming more interesting...
    Colorado vs. Nebraska -- HAHAAHHAAHAHAHHAAHHAAH

SO PLEASE BIG 12, DO SOMETHING CREATIVE. Let other teams get some of these television spots the weekend after Thanksgiving which in turn gives them a Bi-week somewhere during the season. This would also eliminate the need for South vs. North games to be played so early in the season. Spread it out a little bit. No back to back weekends vs. Texas and Oklahoma. Etc.

EDIT: This is only the second year in a row for KU vs. MU and OU vs. OKSTATE, but I have a feeling it may be a trend of the future.

I think the argument is overrated. Who cares - play the games you're scheduled to play. I think the bigger argument is why we're still playing both Texas and OU at the same time.

Also, since we don't have a bowl game this year, we just lost one full week of practice.

Only LOSERS BLAME THE SCHEDULE...The last time I checked every team plays the same teams in their division and alternates teams with the other division...If you want an easy schedule every year just...JOIN THE BIG 10 CONFERENCE!!!!!!!!!!

It's not like we've never played on the Thanksgiving weekend in the past. It's nice we don't have a game then, as attendance is always bad that weekend. At least it is in Ames.

Re: Big 12 Conference Scheduling Hurts Iowa State

I would like for Iowa State to have a bye week in the middle of the season. The entire season is built around the Big XII schedule. It would be great to have a one week break in the middle of the season and get 2 weeks to heal and prepare for the conference schedule.

Looking at the future schedules, it doesn't look like it will happen in the next 6-7 years. As much as I hate to admit it, the OU vs. OSU, Texas vs. Texas A&M, Mizzou vs, KU and Colorado vs. Nebraska are better Big XII "Rivalry" games than any Big XII game involving Iowa State. ISU vs. K-State, Texas Tech, or Baylor doesn't have the same marquee value. We aren't invited to the the "Big XII Rivalry Game" party and it's not going to change.

So how can Iowa State take control of its own schedule, have our own rivalry game, and maybe even upstage the Big XII games? If you are not invited to the party...have your own party and make it bigger.

Because of 9/11, the Iowa State vs. Iowa game was postponed until the Thanksgiving day weekend. Both teams were playing for a better bowl game. The game meant something. Both schools have played non-conference games after the conference schedule is finished. Iowa State has played U Conn and Iowa played Western Michigan as their last game this year.

I'm sure there are as many reasons and risks, on both sides, why this shouldn't happen. Iowa State could win the North and be playing in the Big XII Championship game a week later. Either team could be undefeated and in the driver's seat for a New Year's Day or BCS game. Why risk injuries or a defeat to an in-state rival? The game could garner evn more national attention and be great for both schools. Not sure the two AD's could get on the same page regarding this match-up.

I'm sure this has all been discussed before. Enough about Iowa State-Iowa on the Big XII Rivalry weekend. Schedule a bye-week before the conference schedule and a non-conference game at the end of the season.

As I remember, there was a lot of talk in 2001 about moving that game to the last week of the season, but there was a pretty widespread backlash against it.

Keep the ISU v Iowa game in the fall. The big12 games mean more, and once that game is over you should be ready for conf play. I like the idea of once you start conf play, you keep going until the season is over. No Western Michigans at the end of the year.

But if it was our final game, at least we'd end up with a win.

I remember ISU on TV after Thanksgiving... something about we couldn't fill the stands (students were gone, ppl traveling to meet family). also, I remember crapping a game down our leg for title.....

My thoughts, finish our season before Thanksgiving.

We have no business playing near thanksgiving until our games mean something. Plus if it is in Ames the place will have tumble weeds rolling through the stands during the game.

I'm not sure about that (See UConn vs ISU 2002)
