Re: Getting Wisdom Teeth out tomorrow, advice?

My husband had his out this fall. They didn't give him the syringe until a week after the extraction. Sounds like some people get too aggressive with it right after the procedure.

Quite a bit of good advice in this thread. Everyone is different, every reacts and heals differently. Follow your dentist's recommendations and you'll figure out what works best for you.

Had to laugh at the macaroni-noodle-in-the-hole story. That happened to my better half and the look on his face was sheer panic.

Re: Getting Wisdom Teeth out tomorrow, advice?

Reading the thread from July, it seems like a lot of problems could have been avoided if people had stuck to a soft food diet for at least 3 days. I had braces for 3+ years, and I would be on soft food for at least two days after getting the wire tightened, so I was used to it. (although I wasn't used to the numbness of my mouth)

Applesauce, cottage cheese, yogurt, soup, and jello are your friends. Do NOT eat chips of any kind. Last thing you need to have is a sharp edge poking into tender gums.

I'd have to agree - I think I caused my problem by brushing too hard the second night and not being able to get stuck food out (ewww). It's really important that even if you feel like you can eat harder foods/be more active, just hold off.

Yes, unfortunately I was fish hook guy.

Got them out 4 hours ago. Haven't taken anything yet. Should I be afraid to eat? I really don't want dry socket.

Yeah I'd stick with soft foods for the next day or so. I had to go in to get mine out twice cause that all came in at different times and never really fealt and pain at all but yeah stick with what they told you and you should be fine.

Re: Getting Wisdom Teeth out tomorrow, advice?

Idk since I just got mine now but they sewed my sockets shut. I don't know if they did that for you guys, but they told me that food can't even get into you're sockets. You can somehow still get dry sockets though.

Re: Getting Wisdom Teeth out tomorrow, advice?

I had mine out last year around this time. I went to a very good oral surgeon and everything went well. After, my jaw ached because I think some back teeth were moving a tiny bit due to not being pressed on by my wisdom teeth anymore. The most annoying part was one stitch that wouldn't dissolve and was stuck in the back of my mouth for about two months until it fell out.

As far as whether or not you should get them out, who knows? They are very prone to cavities since they are very hard to clean thoroughly and that can lead to a lot of problems.

Gotta agree with this. I had so much anxiety about being put under that I was nauseous. My lower left wisdom tooth broke open and it took me over a year to work up the courage to go get it yanked. When I finally had it done, it was no sweat. I was only under for about 30 minutes, didn't feel a thing and don't remember a bit of it.

Afterwards, I only took one of the hydrocodone tablets that were prescribed as there was practically no pain. I had it done in the morning and was eating normal foods that same night, just with gauze on the gums to keep food out of the sockets. I was ****** at myself for waiting so long to get it done. The broken tooth was tolerable, but still uncomfortable whenever I was eating hot/cold foods. So glad I can eat normally and chew on both sides of my mouth again.

Had mine out when I was 17. Never had too much pain but I didn't stop bleeding for at least 5 days after. Completely ruined a pillow figuring that one out after I woke up one morning.

Re: Getting Wisdom Teeth out tomorrow, advice?

Had mine out this summer. Might've even started that previous thread on it?
Anywho, do whatever you can to avoid dry sockets. They sowed mine up as well but I still managed to somehow get food in there.
Stick to the soft stuff for the next couple of days even if you feel fine. The lack of substantial food is way easier to handle than dry sockets.
    Good luck!
