Best Christmas presents past and present

Thought the "lamest xmas presents" thread needed a counter thread.

    Here is mine:

Best Present this Year: Cookies in the mail from my sister. They are no-bake chocolate-raisin-oatmeal-coconut things my mother used to make me when I was a little kid. They were a special treat when I was growing up and I would eat them till I was almost sick to my stomach. Haven’t had them in a million years it seems. Was cool to have them again for Christmas.

Second Best Present this year: Neighbors asked me to dog sit their old beagle this last weekend. We were quite the pair of old guys walking the neighborhood, him looking for the perfect place to poop and me being like a little kid walking his Christmas Snoopy dog in the snow.

Longest Lasting Present: My current winter “work” coat for shoveling and messing around the yard in the winter is an old light weight down coat an old ISU girlfriend gave me for Christmas a long time ago. You can date the coat by the fact I have not seen her in over 30 years and by the fact the coat was actually made in the USA. The coat, a product of the defunct Mountain Products Corp, defies aging (somewhat like me!). Got this my 20’s and I am now in my 60’s and it still fits!

Best Present this Year: no question, my wife surprised me with a 60" LED Smart tv. Amazeballs!

SecondBest Present this year: my father got me my first dewalt. An 18v cordless drill with spare battery. No more skill set where the battery lasts 20 minutes and takes 10 minutes to remove because the button is crap.

LongestLasting Present: A pair of cyclone sweat pants from my parents 12 years ago. They no longer say anything on them, but I know they are cyclone sweats none the less

Re: Best Christmas presents past and present

My best, most favorite Christmas present ever I got last year - an authentic Chicago Blackhawks jersey customized with Griswold 00.

Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice?
Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.

Train set. Still not sure how my dad pulled it off, but he had to have spent days putting together a simple layout with a double loop and switches. Hid it from me until Christmas morning. He did a nice job of setting it up to expand, probably spent the next 10 years of my life playing with that thing.

Scored a couple of tickets to the blue ribbon bacon festival as well as tickets to the book of mormon when it comes to DM in January...pretty stoked for both of those.

Trains rule! My best "hand me down toy" was a 1949 Amercian Flyer set that had belonged to my older cousins. This used toy forever entrenched Bill and Dorthy as my favorite aunt and uncle. I still have it setting on my fireplace mantle.

Last night my stick of dynamite wife was wearing a bow and ribbon. Nothing else.

Re: Best Christmas presents past and present

Best Present this Year: My husband had surprised me with some Beats by Dre Studio headphones. We had already picked out my present (see one below), and I had chosen it because it was practical and useful. Since he knew I'd never pick the super-fun gift, he made the choice for me. :)

Second Best Present this year: A new Citizen watch. My old watch was eating the skin on my arm, and I think it might have had a curse on it. So this solved multiple problems. It's really beautiful and dainty (I have wrists like a six-year-old, so this is a bonus).

Longest Lasting Present: My best friend and I each got each other these big, super-comfy, super-roomy men's Eddie Bauer sweatshirts about 15 years ago. Each of us still wear them and LOVE them, even though they have a million holes in them.

Best Present That Actually Wasn't A Present For Me: This is the first year our child really understands Christmas. It has been so much fun seeing her get excited over the Little Red Riding Hood cape her grandma made her, a dollhouse, and so on. And Santa is this totally insane concept.

Best Present this year: The yet to be picked zip wallet my husband is getting me. I've got my eye on a blue Kate Spade one.

    Second Best Present this year:
Probably the gift card for a makeup place. I needs to get real makeup like a grownup.

    Longest Lasting Present:
well hopefully the wallet will be, haha. The memories from my husband's gift last year will last a long time :) Took a roadtrip to a couple southern cities and a NASCAR race.

Re: Best Christmas presents past and present

My favorites by far were the Lionel Trains. My dad started a very big layout in our big house that took over half the basement including tunnels through walls into other rooms. So on Christmas and birthdays more stuff was added. He had a big mirror in the middle surrounded by some grass hills that looked just like a real lake. He also strung individual threads through all the telephone poles. Here is my first Christmas in 1955 with some Lionel cars under the tree.
