    Stevie Johnson

    Hey All -

In another thread I got thinking about ISU great Stevie Johnson. Always was impressed by the physical play he brought to the court and was a quiet piece to some very good ISU teams. Melvin seems to have a similar play style to Stevie.

Any other Cyclone fans really enjoy Stevie back in the day? Thought I would create a thread for a good Cyclone that does not seem to get brought up much.

    Happy Friday!

    Re: Stevie Johnson

Played in the Sweet 16 and a bowl game correct? If that is accurate...how many NCAA athletes can say they did that?

    Am I wrong on this...?

    Re: Stevie Johnson

From what I remember Stevie after his final year of basketball went out of football and started most of the year at OLB under Dan. The guy was awesome. I was only in the 4th/5th grade I believe so my facts might be a bit off.

    Re: Stevie Johnson

    Two Stevie Johnson stories:
    1. I had my picture taken with him on the field after the Insight bowl win. Cool guy.
    2. My son was 3-4 at the time and Stevie was his favorite player. He wrote him a letter asking if he could come over to our house, watch Scooby Doo, and shoot hoops in the driveway. Sadly he did not.

Always loved watching a 6'4" guy (maybe a little shorter than that) guard the 6'10" or 7' guys for Kansas. Tough and physical without being dirty.

    Re: Stevie Johnson

I believe Stevie had a heck of a career in Europe after leaving ISU. He use to bother the heck of out the bigs in the Big 12 at the time. Quick and never gave up an inch on the block.

Was part of the Elite 8 team (National Champions really) in 2000.

Stevie was a nice guy too. Everyone on campus loved him. And yes, Ejim really reminds me of him, especially how they both hustle for rebounds, etc...

And...didn't he date Tracey Gahan while at ISU? That is the trifecta! Elite 8, bowl win and Gahan! Nice!

    Re: Stevie Johnson

Stevie is on my all-favorites team. He had to be feeling pretty damn good about himself after graduating. Took the basketball team the furthest it had been in the modern era and took the football team to its first bowl game in 20+ years. I'm sure it was all him.

If I recall, he didn't play much at the beginning of the football season but grew into a solid contributor throughout the season. I'll have to go back and watch the tape but I think he made some good plays in the bowl game too.

    Re: Stevie Johnson

Great Thread before the Holidays. Merry Christmas All.

Stevie was possibly my favorite ISU hoopster of all time....hence my screen name.
My freshman year stevie was a sophmore, so I basically atteneded every game during the "elite"/ Larry Ball Era.

He lead the team and near the top in the confrence in Rebs, while only being about 6'4.

    Favorite Stevie Game:
Elite 8 Season, ISU was playing Texas or OkSt in the big12 Tourney.
Tinsley was hitting Stevie with sweet passes for layups all game, and Stevie was hitting the glass hard too.

ISU was up by 15-20ish. Watch'n the Game with my Dad on break.
With 15 seconds left in the game and only 8sec on the shot clock, ISU was going to have to chuck a shot before the shotclock expired. I think Tinsley was just going to dribble out the clock and take the penelty. ISU crowd in KC was standing and getting pretty fired up for the Vicotry...Fizer runs up to the top of the key and says something to Tinsley....."I assume...let Stevie shoot it"...
Stevie comes off a screen and fires off a fade-way 3, as the shotclock horn goes off....and DRAINS IT!!!!
    Crowd is now going Wild!!!!!
I belive it was Stevie's only 3 all year.
He finished the game with 20pts and about 15 boards...

Dad gives me a HighFive and says...." I think that deserves a Beer"..(was still underage)

I think ESPN name Stevie to the All NCAA GarbageMan team, during the Elite 8 season.

Frigging Hampton has only won two games so far this year. Why did they have to be decent that year? Why?

CFH HMagic bball season next year.
Let my Fred's Four Horsemen ride: Georges, Hogue, Nader, and McKay.
