    Iowa State Commercials

I am always seeing them on the last 6-9 months. I never used to see any except during ISU games, but they are playing a lot on the mainstream channels. (Direct TV in Omaha). Must have a big marketing campaign right now pushing the university. Love it.
That is my cool story bro for you.

I always thought commercials for colleges were tacky. They all say basically the same thing: "Dream Anywhere. Start Here." Or something like that. Oh, and you never see a commercial for Yale or Hahvard. A degree in criminal justice?! While I work full-time! No way, Vaderott!

    Re: Iowa State Commercials

I like the commercials, but why does the guy at the end whisper when he says "Choose your adventure?"

I noticed that during the low periods of my life, when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, I could see only one set of footprints, so I said to the Lord,
“You promised me Lord, that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. During the most trying periods of my life there has only been one set of footprints in the sand. Why, when I needed you most, have you not been there for me?”
“Because,” says the Lord, “Sandpeople always ride single-file, to hide their numbers.”

I always try to figure out what building they are in during the commercials. The more and more I get into college, the more I notice I recognize where they are at.

Lol, I wish they showed more of the cool engineering and ag equipment they have in some of those commercials.

The idea is to draw the viewers in to that last line. There are studies out there that say whispering causes viewers to focus more intently to hear the message than if it were spoken normally or yelled.

Those spots are way better than what the U of I puts out. In the past they always relied on football clips to boast about the school. Now they have nothing.

Might as well just say. Have money? from Chicagoland but don't have the grades for anywhere good? Come to Iowa City we are not that far away :)

There was this billboard in MN that said "Iowa: just 112 smiles ahead" and thought it was weird considering all those smiles would be in a different state. Do the smiles stop once you reach Iowa?

I've seen the ISU commercials over here in Chicago on mainstream channels every so often.

If you're coming in towards Mason City, yes, they do...

    Re: Iowa State Commercials

I'm a big Wes Andrerson/Rushmore fan but the Mark Mothersbaugh music in the commercials bugs and the whispering drives me nuts. No commercial for an AAU Land Grant of Science and Technology that invented the computer and counts a Nobel Prize laureate as a faculty member should whisper. Ever.

I'm assuming the potential students who would factor that into their decision are not the on the fence high school student they are trying to market to.

    Re: Iowa State Commercials

I'd like to know why a Dan McCarney Toys for Tots commercial has been airing lately.

While on live TV, Ford used a vulgar term to describe a private part of the female anatomy, adding that he was “happily married” and “got more than enough to eat at home.”
