Heck, that view from the patrol car is a hell of a lot better than I had driving to work this morning.

I'd be scared ******** to be the guy sitting on the shoulder in a patrol car in these conditions.

    Re: Snow Pictures

Not long after my power came back on around 4am this morning then we heard this big thud. Looked outside and a limb nearly took out the line to our house and fortunate we still have power. Still waiting on MidAmerican to show up and remove it from the line. Not looking forward to seeing what the damage will run me to get the conduit and meter box secured back on the house. It tore up the awning a little too so have a feeling that wil have to be repaired as well.

Isn't the electric company responsible for everything up to and including your meter? I thought that's how it worked.

You can spend a lot of time and money picking out the perfect floral bouquet for your date ... but you're probably better off checking if you have bad breath and taking the porn out of the glove compartment.

The moral: you gain more by not being stupid, than you do by being smart. Smart gets neutralized by other smart people. Stupid does not.

I had just gotten done shoveling out my drive when the snow plow came through the culdesac and re-pushed everything to the ened of my driveway, leaving me a 6 foot pile to push through again.

No offense, snow is snow, but man, you literally would have thought this storm was the Mayan prophecy come true the way I've been hearing about it here in Illinois.
I am not certain how much snow we received in Ames, as I only measured once before I started to shovel, and that measurement was a bit more than 8 inches. But as far as shoveling is concerned, that snow was the toughest I have had to work with in years. It was a very heavy, wet snow, and at times I felt it was like shoveling mud.

ID:	17158My street in Ankeny as of 330 this afternoon. UPS guys decided not to try it (not like he would have gotten far anyway. As a side note, this street was clear at 8am. This 5 footer filled in after that. Shortly after this pic, a neighborhood snowball fight broke out. Not like we were going anywhere anyway. Still like this as of 6p

terrrrrrrrrrible pictures because the wind is blowing so badly, but there are cars out in that parking lot somewhere. Measures a foot deep in non-drifted areas.

GHD blizzard was a once every 20 year event, you also already had a pretty reasonable snowpack, not shocking the effects were worse. As storms go the dynamics with this one were/are pretty impressive, thundersnow over broad areas of multiple states, ridiculous wind(and without lake assistance unlike GHD fwiw) and very respectable snowfall totals(Wisconsin got hammered).

Not what MidAmerican told me. They said they are responsible for everything up to the top of the conduit pipe on the roof and an electrician would have to repair the box and conduit. Luckily I have a friend who is a master electrician that does great work and will do it at a reasonable price, pictures already sent to him on it. MidAmerican did say they would make sure everything is left in a "safe" state when they remove the limb from the line so I would guess they will do something with the conduit to make the line tight again. They have yet to come yet but I'm guessing that actual down lines and outages are going to be taken care of before this although I did exaggerate a little and say the line was low enough in the street a snow plow might not clear it. UPS truck came down the street today and nearly took out the coax cable line that is hanging even lower. Luckily I have not had Mediacom since 2004 or 2005 so if they just cut that line all together I could care less.
