    Conference Games

Sitting at home, not working today, and surfing CF. Reading about Kabongo (sp) at Texas got me thinking about how we will fare in conference play.

    How I see it...

    KU: 0-2
KSU: 1-1 (win @ home, lose on road)
OU: 1-1 (win @ home, lose on road)
OSU: 1-1 (win @ home, lose on road)
UT: 1-1 (win @ home, lose on road)
    TTech: 2-0
BU: 1-1 (win @ home, lose on road)
    TCU: 2-0
    WVU: 2-0

That is 11-7 in conference play. Good enough to dance in March. I dont think we are that good but the conference is definitely down. Where am I wrong?

That's probably about right, but 11-7 (21-10 overall) in a down Big 12 with no really good wins is probably a team that is squarely on the bubble, if not slightly on the bad side of it. A lot of that will depend on how the bubble sorts out. Last year was a historically weak bubble, so we weren't ever really on it. We'll have to wait and see how it sorts out this year.

    Re: Conference Games

I think our chances of sweeping Tcu, tech, west Virginia are pretty decent. I believe 12 conference wins is not out of the question. The key will be k state Texas and Oklahoma if we go 4-2 that's ten wins plus a signature win against Kansas coupled with conference tourney gets us a birth in the dance

    Re: Conference Games

I think the key is picking up a road win against a tournament team. We went 0-3 outside of Hilton against potential tourney teams, have to pick up 1 or 2 during conference season. The selection committee doesn't like it if you've only beat good teams at home.

I think we should be able to beat KSU twice this season. They haven't looked good, and apparently Webber is shuffling everybody around in his lineup.

I've seen them play a number of times now. They are just as challenged offensively as they were last year, except now they don't play nearly as hard defensively and don't seem to rebound with the same intensity as under Frank Martin (as you might expect).

If I had Frank Martin watching me play, I'd rebound the hell out of the ball.

    Re: Conference Games

I think the OP is pretty close, however, KState and UT sweeps especially with Kabongo gone are very doable. At this point in the season I like this team better than last years (at the same point). I was worried last year in non-conference that they wouldnt put it together, but they did. I think Fred does a nice job of tinkering during the non-conference season and then peaking at the right time. This team will get after it once conference play starts. Korie is getting better as we go, he should be fine.

I think we will go 0-2 vs OSU and KU and 1-1 vs Texas, Baylor, WVU, and OU. We will sweep K-State, Tech, and TCU

    10-8 conference record.

    Re: Conference Games

The only games that I don't see us having a shot at are at Kansas and at OSU. Every other game is vey winnable. Heck the big 12 is so down this year, that I could see us going undeafted at home.

    Re: Conference Games

This would most likely put ISU in good shape:
    3-3 vs. KU, OSU, Baylor
5-3 vs. OU, KSU, Texas, WVU
    4-0 vs. Tech, TCU

    Re: Conference Games

    KU: 0-2
KSU: 1-1 (win @ home, lose on road)
OU: 2-0 (win @ home, lose on road)
OSU: 1-1 (win @ home, lose on road)
UT: 1-1 (win @ home, lose on road)
    TTech: 2-0
BU: 1-1 (win @ home, lose on road)
    TCU: 2-0
WVU: 1-1 (win @ home, lose on road)

I pretty much have the same thing as the OP, except for OU (they blow) and WVU. We should beat them (OU) twice in the regular season. Putting us at still at 11-7 (21-10)

Still, we will need a nice road win at KU, K-State or OSU to help us in the eyes of the voters/etc... 12-6 would get us in...no question.

But with my scenario... 11-7 isn't good enough this year IMO. We will need to win our opener in the Big 12 Tourney to be a lock for the NCAA. Get to the ship in the Big 12... we could look at a 5-6 seed.

Get your heads up Cyclone Nation, Fred's got this and the team will be ready to respond come Jan. 9th. (Win that one...oh, our confidence will be soaring.)

    GO CYCLONES!

    Re: Conference Games

The Big 12 will look better if KU can win at OSU and Texas can win at MSU this weekend. I still think 11-7 should get us in.

    Re: Conference Games

At best, I see a split with KU and OSU. I don't see us sweeping either.

At worst, I see a split with WVU, TTech, TCU, OU, & TU. I dont see them sweeping us. I think we have a shot to sweep any and/or all.

I think the swing teams are KSU and BU. Could see anything with them. I think we could sweep. But I think we could get swept. Those are the two we will be battling for 3rd place in conference.

I had the exact same prediction except I had us winning at KSU, OU, OSU, UT, and BU but losing at home to each.
