    Medium term patterns favor active weather in our neck of the woods. Long ways out but there's been a pretty consistent system appearing just after Christmas for instance.

    I would say around 3-4" at this point with more along hwy 30 in eastern Iowa. You could get into amounts in the 8" range in some of those areas.

    Des Moines, at this juncture, looks like it may be right on the changeover line at first, which could mean some rain and a glass ceiling on totals.

    I think just 12 hours ago they said it was mostly going to be SE of Des Moines. Now they are saying slightly north. It will probably be on track for west of here tonight.

    Storm comes onshore tomorrow afternoon/evening so I'd expect models to bounce around a bit till then.

    Especially considering Des Moines straddling rain/snow line in many of them.
