What players are benefiting most from extra bowl practices

Who might be moving up in the depth charts for next season. I believe the coaches had said one time theses extra practices were very helpful developing players. Anybody hearing anything?

Re: What players are benefiting most from extra bowl practices

By late in the season the player reps are being spread around pretty evenly in practice. By now everyone in the 2 deeps is getting ample work. The extra 3 weeks of practice flat out help improve the younger players in any program.

Whats most important for ISU is that Northern Iowa and Iowa had no post-season work to put in on the practice field for those extra 3 weeks. I don't think its a huge advantage overall, but it benefits the ISU coaches as they get some extra time to clearly evaluate the younger players they have. Position battle leaders may be more clear after the bowl game as well.

I think Richardson having an extra three weeks of reps as the starter is going to pay huge dividends next year.

    First and foremost.. this ^^^

Past that... its the reps at positions that become second nature, where players are less likely to make mistakes.

May even pay huge dividends in the bowl game.

Redshirted players benefit by getting to work with their position coaches more and I think for the first time all season with the bowl practices.

This is also the time when position switches are generally made. You know--like Oni Omoile to Mike linebacker.

Re: What players are benefiting most from extra bowl practices

    1. I agree with a number of other posters that Sam R with the 1's is invaluable.

    2. I think you might see some solid improvement from a guy like Bundrage.

    3. Cory M and David I on the DLine the reps can only help.

    4. Finally, just the young guys getting to work in a camp environment compared to have to run scout etc is a huge benefit of bowl practices.

I think it's probably helping the linebackers who were moved to different positions after the Jake Knott injury.

It is probably a huge help for Watson and Givens coming back from injuries to have a few weeks of reps without actual game hits.
