    Wells Fargo Arena...

...is not a basketball arena. Seats that are not directly along the sidelines have horrible sight-lines and there is way too much empty space behind the baskets due to hockey configuration. This doesn't seem to be a problem at any other modern arenas such as Sprint Center, Target Center, or CenturyLink Center, who have temporary bleachers that reach all the way to the baseline. Hopefully a solution to this problem can be figured out before the 2013 Big Four Classic.

Agreed, but i doubt they'll ever fix it. Never been a fan of it for basketball games.

we had the worst $60 seats I've ever seen. fortunately there weren't ushers checking tickets so we ended up in the lower level for the ISU game.

    Re: Wells Fargo Arena...

The arena has a terrible design overall. Even the outside design seems silly. Scoreboard seems small. Too much open space behind baskets because of hockey with no way of fixing it. Not enough seats for ncaa events
which was debated when being built. No hotels around the area. Des Moines didn't do a great job with the arena.

    Re: Wells Fargo Arena...

They built the arena for the Iowa Stars. Now we don't even have an AHL hockey team.

ďI told you, I donít care if youíre black or white. I donít care if youíre rich or poor. I donít care where you come from, whether itís Texas, Florida, California, or right here in the state of Iowa, I donít care about any of thatÖ But what I did care about is moving forward from that day on, that we were one team." -Paul Rhoads

Since Iowa fans owned the arena yesterday it should have been easy to move down for our game

No hotels? There are at least 5 within a mile of Wells Fargo Arena

This is what we did. Went from the highest row of 200 level to around row 15 of the 100.

The BTN guys couldn't shut up about how nice they thought the arena was and that it was a "big time" atmosphere.

Every time I give the announcers a chance to prove that they are actually rational to listen to.. Every time I turn them off

Design from outside is cool. I like it far better than Target Center. Could use a few closer bars.

Generally went the same way everything goes in dsm\polk county. Great idea followed by 'can we make it cheaper', sacrificing on what made it a good idea.

Heck, hilton with the facelifts done a few years ago (new chairs, ribbon board, new center videoboards) is a better arena for fans by far and its much older. Only thing the WFA has on it is a little capacity, a better concourse, and more 'premium' seating options that help the arena's bottom line. If hilton ever gets the improvements that were outlined in the master plan a few years back, most of that aside from capacity will be addressed.

Also, i think location-wise it was a poor choice. I think it wouldve been better down farther south, closer to the entertainment areas

One big advantage @ Hilton over WFA: the number of urinals. The men's room lines yesterday were ridiculous. Granted, they serve beer so that may have made some impact on line length, but still...

Yeah, i think hilton is one of the best for any stadium\arena ive been in for that. Almost never a long line.
