big four classic attendance by fan base

Just getting home from this. Wondering how those who were also there would rank the schools in terms of fans there from 1 most to 4 fewest.

My list 1. Iowa hate to say this but they showed up in mass today.
    2. ISU good solid crowd but past games at the Well have brought more ISU fans than this.
3 and 4 is tough. I would of started to say UNI then Drake but I think the Drake fans outnumbered the UNI crowd.

So I guess mine is Iowa, ISU, Drake, UNI

Iowa was heavy, UNI had good showing for the first game, then left.
A lot more Iowa stayed around to diss ISU.
I am not a fan of the arrangement.

Yeah most ISU fans arrived for only ISU and Iowa fans left in droves after their game I guess if you want to pay 70 bucks to watch 1 game it's your prerogative.

So did I hear correctly that there's a four year contract for this thing?

I'll take side bets that it'll never see year 4.

Some Hawks talked **** as they left following their game. They referenced their recent win in basketball to which I replied and what bowl game are you going to?

I found our game rather dull as well but that more because I rather watch paint dry than watch Drake play basketball.

“They're very, very hard to guard,” Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey said. “They're really good. And with Niang in the middle kind of wheeling and all those guys spreading you out, they're kind of a nightmare matchup. And they're men. They're really men.”

Re: big four classic attendance by fan base

I think we will see the 4 years of this tournament played but it won't get renewed. ISU and Iowa should tell UNI and Drake that if they want to play us, they have to play at Hilton and Carver Hawkeye. There is no reason for us to have home and home with these teams. They get so fired up to play us and we really don't have a lot to gain if we win.

“I told you, I don’t care if you’re black or white. I don’t care if you’re rich or poor. I don’t care where you come from, whether it’s Texas, Florida, California, or right here in the state of Iowa, I don’t care about any of that… But what I did care about is moving forward from that day on, that we were one team." -Paul Rhoads

    Hawk fans stayed around?

Maybe in the lower bowl, but in level 3 the vast majority of hawk fans left after their game.

    Couple thoughts
    1) I think the schools charged too much for tickets. The ticket office said they sold out upper deck $25 tickets , I'm skeptical as there seemed to be open seats. The lower bowl might have been 80% sold- IMO $75 was a bit steep & same goes for $50 upper deck.
    2) WF might have been half full for the 2nd game. Not the best atmosphere. IMO they might be better off selling 2 separate session tickets.

Nothing changed my opinion from the TV. Return to old system. Enjoy until the end.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!

I bet this is something that they look into doing. Play the first game at 1:30pm or whatever, and then clear the place out and play the second game at 7:00pm. Cut the ticket prices in half or so to make up for it.

I had this idea in another thread. So a two-day event probably wouldn't work if there was a game at night and one of those teams had to turn around and play early the next day. I would still like to see all the teams play every year.

Perhaps the Big Four Classic could be ISU vs. UNI and Iowa vs. Drake every season. Then ISU and Drake would schedule their own game at Wells Fargo every season outside of that event (or alternate with the Well/Hilton) and Iowa and UNI could schedule their own thing maybe in Cedar Rapids.

Re: big four classic attendance by fan base

Not a fan of the set up, as a ISU fan I find myself feeling bad for Drake and UNI to give up possibly their biggest draw each year playing ISU or IA at home. From a fans standpoint I would guess IA 55-60% Fans, ISU at 25 - 30% and rest picked up pretty evenly by Drake and UNI.

I tweeted that possibly 40% of IA fans would leave after their game, but only 20% possibly but more at half of ISU/Drake game.

ISU had a 11-1:00 pre game party which was poorly attended and JP opened it with 10 minute speech then opened it to questions and some very good questions were asked about Conference Alignment, Facility upgrades next 1-3 years, Rhodes going to WI, Lynch, Memphos Tickets, etc. Possibly because of 4:00 start with our game, but feel we should've had better attendance if we're ALL IN at ISU. He was very open answering questions asked.

Big 4 Classic Grade: C+ (Would've been better if place was 90% full for two games
ISU Pre Party: D (mainly for poor attendance when out leader was there)
Food Cost at WF: D (Yah I know it's going to be expensive, but bought 5 beers and 2 sandwiches for just under $50) Possibly why more families were not there.

More than you asked for but my thoughts of the Big 4 (Should been call Big 2/Small 2 Classic) Give Drake and UNI their home games back, let them make some money

I disagree. ISU & Iowa are rolling in the dough because of recent TV contracts. If we are afraid to lose to UNI or Drake on the road we shouldn't be playing in the Big 12 or Big 10. The atmoshere when we play UNI and Drake whether at Hilton or on the road is always intense. I think that is a grat fan environment. Plus road games against Drake &UNI are a good prep for the Big 12.
