Big East on the verge of breaking up

7 big east non football schools have decided to break away from the conference. Sounds like boise state holds all the power in keeping the conference together. I have to think they will break away also. Could this be the time for big 12 expansion? Maybe we will get Boise in the conference after all?

    I think general consensus is:

    1. We like 10 teams due to money and football scheduling

    2. Boise State is academically stoopid.

But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.

Boise State brings nothing to the Big 12 economically or in terms of recruiting footprint. Plus they will be ground down by a big 12 schedule and become pedestrian (even moreso that WVA). I sincerely hope the Big 12 is hunting bigger game.

Boise State is BS. They have had a new conference every year for the last three years. They might as well be called the Pirates because they are always on the move.

Aresco attempting to hold Big East Conference together | Detroit Free Press | freep.com

Big East Commissioner Mike Aresco spent Thursday morning on a conference call with the presidents of the league's non-football schools, exploring all avenues to hold the conference together, according to a person with knowledge of the discussions.

That person spoke to USA TODAY Sports on condition of anonymity because the talks were supposed to remain confidential.
The league's seven private Catholic schools, which do not sponsor Football Bowl Subdivision teams, have been exploring in recent days the possibility of striking out on their own or dissolving the conference. The legal entanglements of that decision are so complicated, however, that Aresco has been trying to slow the train and work out a deal to keep the league together.
A high-ranking official at a school moving to the Big East in 2013 told USA TODAY Sports that the football schools are under the impression that a breakup is imminent, but there is no immediate clear path forward if that happens. The official also spoke on the

Big East on the Brink of Breakup | ZagsBlog.com
According to reports from the Providence Journal and ESPN.com, the seven Catholic schools in the conference are on the verge of breaking away from the Big East Conference and going their own way. Both reports said the seven schools would have a conference call with Commissioner Mike Aresco Thursday and then announce their plans within the next 24 to 48 hours.
An athletic department leader at one of the schools told the Journal Wednesday that “the train has left the station. Get on board or get run over.”
Sources told ESPN.com that it “would be an upset” if the Catholic schools remained in the Big East.

Re: Big East on the verge of breaking up

The issue is that these 8 new Big East football schools have nowhere to go besides each other.

MWC and especially CUSA have already made a ton of additions. CUSA is at 14 teams, half of which no sports fan would recognize as a football team in the slightest...talking Old Dominion, Middle Tennessee State, UNC Charlotte.

MWC is at ten teams, but I'm sure they'd like to have BYU someday, I'm sure they'd take BSU/SDSU back and maybe the two texas schools...but those other four and possibly the texas schools are stuck making the new CUSA a really crappy 16-20 team football conference...unless the unlikely scenario happens where these 8 schools somehow hold together a football only conference.

And that's all assuming the unlikely notion that Cincy/USF get into the ACC somehow, I can see UConn, but one of those other two is likely CUSA too. It was a huge mistake for that league to add all these FCS and Sun Belt teams.

Academics have nothing to do with college sports anymore. $$$ is all that matters.

Honestly after everything settles down MWC\CUSA and these remainder teams need to get together, come up with something that makes sense to divide everything into an east and a west league.

I don't think Boise St. has a say in it do they? I thought I read somewhere they hadn't been in the conference long enough to have a vote...

There are only 3 AAU members left in the Big XII. Us, Texas, and KU. The conference is not concerned with academic prestige. See State, Oklahoma and Tech, Texas

Hey, buy your Boise State tickets fast before the games change. You never know who they will play next.

Remember when football programs programmed games ten years ahead. Gone with the Wind. Everyone is going to a flex schedule.
