Let's keep those stereotypes rolling. That way people like that don't move to these nice areas and mess them up.

North Dakota? It is sooo cold there. And there are no mountains. It's like ****in Little House on the Prairie, the part where they get lost walking from school to home and freeze to death. Just terrible. If you actually have options, you do not work in Bismark. Also, Midland? MOX!!

Midland would probably be my last choice on that list.

I believe "Gateway FROM Nebraska" would be more popular.

Re: The Cities Where Everyone Has a Job

Choose any medium sized US city with a major university and you'll find unemployment is always low. Universities support a wide cross section of jobs. Cities like Madison, IA City, and Ames benefit greatly from this. The ND locations are simply supply and demand. There is a lot of work being done there and not enough people.

Re: The Cities Where Everyone Has a Job

I hate these lists because it makes me feel even worse I could never get a job in these places. My degree was so specialized I am the only one in my profession in the entire county. I wish I could move to Ames but I don't consider full-time at best Buy as a positive move.

Oh, yeah! Go (state of) Iowa?

Some people choose to be unemployed. (retired early, stay at home parent, etc.)

It could be worse than Marshall county. And what is your profession? It's obviously not a Spanish/English translator.

I don't believe unemployment statistics include those who aren't looking. I may be incorrect, but my understanding is the data is tracked based on those filling out requests for unemployment money and applications. If you decide not to collect and apply at the office, you are no longer considered. Anyone else have more details?

Yeah but that's the problem. We want people to think Iowa sucks so they don't move here and bring their ****-poor attitude.

The department of labor statistics finds the unemployment rate using a survey. They call households and ask if the person is between two ages (I think it's 18 and 65), and have been looking for a job in the past few weeks. If you answer yes to both of those questions you are considered unemployed. So the unemployment rate is the number of people who have been looking for work in the past few weeks over I think the total adult population of the United States. The issue with this is that it is lower than the real unemployment rate because if you have given up looking for a job because you can't find work then you are not unemployed.
