The b12 slate, week in, and week out, would have been too much for them, IMHO. KSU or OU would've beaten them.

They lost to Florida and LSU... That is a similar level to KState and Oklahoma. They would probably lose at least one of those games.

Quite possible that they lose 2-3 more.

Whatever it is, they don't go undefeated in a conference that's deeper than the SEC.

Well, they get to play OU, so that should settle that one.

No. They always lose to Tejas. That's why they took their ball(s) to the SEC.

Texas (who sent A&M running) always thumps them and either KSU or OU would have beaten them as well. Baylor and OSU match up very well with them too.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOO

They fourished in the underdog role. In the Big 12 that team could never take care of biz and the talent level recently is what it is now. No chance they run through the Big 12. None.

Losing to Florida was the best thing that ever happened to them since it took a target off their back.

SEC is a good conference but the teams are beatable. Florida is not a powerhouse and by being 2nd/3rd best team in the SEC they are automatically a top 5 team nationally. But that isn't a powerhouse like it was with Urban Meyer.

A&M in the Big 12 = Alabama probably 13-0 right now

#1 13-0 Alabama vs. #2 12-0 Notre Dame so no room for TAMU who would probably be 10-2 in the Big 12 as well

Re: Would Tammy be playing for a national title if still in Big XII?

Its hard to tell. Ultimately I think the schedule wouldve been stronger week in and week out in the big 12. Not only do you get one less noncon patsy, but due to the depth of the big 12, to go undefeated a team has to bring it 100% each and every week besides kansas (and even then, there were flashes that showed KU could come close if you didn't). Warning, long and rambling post to follow:

But i figured id try to take a look at the ratings and figure out how they'd do. Looking at TAMU's schedule on sagarin (sorted by rating).

    1-Alabama
    4-Florida
    11-LSU
    35-Ole Miss
    39-Mississippi State
    43-Missouri
    47-Louisiana Tech
    57-Sam Houston State
    68-Arkansas
    78-SMU
    83-Auburn
    204-South Carolina State

When you look at it this way it really shows the schedule dropoff for TAMU. After AL\FL\LSU, the SOS drops off dramatically (this reflects the conference as a whole where there is a 20-place dropoff between the top group and the rest of the conference). Only 2 teams in the big 12 are lower rated than TAMU's 4th most difficult opponent, Ole miss, and those are ISU and Kansas. Only 1 team is worse than the 5th most difficult opponent on TAMU's schedule, and that's Kansas. Then look at KSU or OU, who are similarly rated by sagarin, playing 8 or 9 games (9 for OU thanks to ND) all at ISU's level (38) or higher, while TAMU plays 8 games at a level rated below ISU. Hell, with that schedule, ISU isnt going to win that conference by any means, but it has a damn good shot at doing at least as well as it did this year in the big 12, if not better.

As far as 'national championship resume', wins against top 30 teams, TAMU was tested exactly 3 times (anyone in the conversation should be expected to beat non top 30 rated teams), and lost 2/3 times going 1-2. OU was tested 8 times and went 6-2, KSU was tested 7 times and went 7-1.

The question ultimately would be how TAMU would fare vs teams in the 10-30 range, as they really weren't tested a ton in that range due to a weak noncon and the SEC having a pretty big gap of teams rated in that area. They did lose close to 11 lsu and they barely won against the closest opponent on the bottom side of that, 35 Ole Miss. From that limited data, one can surmise that TAMU would likely have a lot of close games in that range, increasing the likelihood of losses in that range. If they went 50\50 on that portion of the big 12 schedule, you're looking at 3 losses. If you say they go 50\50 on their top 10 portion (generous given they went 1-2), you're looking at another loss there as well to either KSU or OU. Long story short, id guess about 3-4 losses in the big 12, depending on which team they'd miss\replace)

TL,DR- 3-4 Losses for TAMU in the big 12 due to being tested more in the 10-30 range.

Not undefeated but they may have won the conference.
