Best (sports) moment you experienced in Ames

Something new to ponder. What was the best sporting event or moment you experianced while in the mecca?

Either of the past two Iowa games, they were both a blast.

I think it was basketball game over texas...anyway the one we cut the nets down...that was special. Troy Davis going over 2000 yards the first time was pretty good as well.

Colorado Tornado game when I was so drunk I put on my Tornando Gogles, Challenged the Tornado to a fight, then looked at a Buffs fan and explained to him in great detail how we brought our Mascot to the game and how it would blow Ralphie into Kansas. I was on fire that day.

I was like Lt. Dan in Forest gump just yelling at it "is that all you got". Wouldn't you know the Tornado never came close to us. I took full credit at the tailgate lot I was in.

The best ever was the Lafester game though.

Recent things that come to mind:

-Winning our super bowl in the 2005 season 23-3.
-Being in Hilton against Ok State and Nebraska when we clinched both Big 12 titles.
-Watching Troy Davis run for 378 yards Vs Missouri and we won.
-Football team dominating Nebraska in 2002
Worst would be watching Uconn dominate us in the regular season finale a few years ago. That was a disaster.

Best moment for me was after trouncing UCLA in the 2000 NCAA tournament. Watched the game at People's, then headed outside to greet a sea of revelers. The corner of Welch and Lincoln Way was a mass of Cyclone fans clogging the intersection and most of Welch. Good times, at least for the 2 days leading up to the next game.

1976 win over Nebraska; Luther Blue returned a kick off for 95 yard TD. We tore the goal posts down.

Mine will be on Tuesday - I just won the auction for Men's Basketball Coach for a day! Sorry - I'm extremely happy as the auction closed about three minutes ago.

I'll always remember the 2005 Colorado game, if only for the events that preceded it. I distinctly remember eating at the MWL dining center before the game, and going outside into 60-70 mph winds that were howling due north towards the tornado. Walking to the stadium, there was a portion of the low clouds that almost perfectly formed the swirling Cy logo. I never said anything until one of my friends pointed it out. We all had to laugh that all of us had noticed the clouds' shape and were to concerned for our own sanities to say anything about it.

Re: Best (sports) moment you experienced in Ames

Winning IM basketball my senior year at State (1997).... beating a team full of football players en route to the title as well...

oh oh oh! you mean ISU sports moment... hmmm... in Ames, eh? some pretty dark years in football when I was there (falls of 93-96)... TD haning 378 on Mizzou was pretty unreal... As for hoops... ok, this will sound weird, because we lost, but the game vs. Iowa at Hilton in '95 was just unbelievable.. my buddies and I had 5th row seats and I've never felt so much energy in my life (the prior two years I worked concessions at Hilton so missed the courtside experience)... Willoughby hitting a trey late in the game... I thought my eardrums were going to pop... that game kinda showed that Floyd was putting together a pretty good team even though ISU came up short...

I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.

Re: Best (sports) moment you experienced in Ames

Excellent question, and hard to answer...

If we're talking about singular moments and not overall games, for me the best moment in Ames would probably be Seneca's Run in 2002. The best moment I experienced outside Ames would be storming the field at Kinnick after the '98 game.

Worst moment in Ames...there are a few. But I'd have to say losing to Mizzou in overtime in '04, thereby losing the North division. Not only did we lose, but it was cold as hell!

It's tough to pick one moment from the 2000 basketball season but the OSU game stands out. Unfortunately I missed the Texas game because I had a test at the same time. It was the only regular season home game I missed in 5 years. I'll also second the post-UCLA celebration.
2001 KU basketball. The anticipation for this game was huge.
2002 Nebraska football. Fun, fun, fun game.

I'll have to agree with the Colorado game in '05. A buddy of mine and i were playing catch in the parking lot while everyone else was running for shelter. And that was just before the game. The game was amazing. 2 defensive td's. One by Curvey and the other by paris. The game was unreal
