    Rivalry Games

Besides walk-ons we have zero players from the state of Iowa on our team, Iowa has 8. You could tell last night that our players didn't care to much about the game from a rivalry perspective while Iowa players wanted it badly.

In football we have ton's of players from the state of Iowa who mark the Iowa game on their calendars because it means something to them. Last night it looked like it was just another OOC game for our guys.

Now I know the state of Iowa isn't the best place to get basketball talent but it's still nice to have someone that has that hate for Iowa like the people who live in this state (Like Bubu, who had a very nice game vs them last year).

    Re: Rivalry Games

I'm probably in the minority here, but the ISU/Iowa game shouldn't mean any more to our players/coaches than any other non-conf game on the schedule. Rivalries are so overweight, unathletic fans like us can feel better about themselves around the water cooler at work for a few days or weeks.

********! It should mean more because it is a rivalry game. Fred knows what it means as he talked about it after the Tuesday game. It is very sad that our players, no matter where they're from, could be so damn lifeless and uninspired for this game. Even sadder is that Fred could not get them fired up for this game. So much like Drake last year it makes me ill. And I am a huge Fred & program fan. ( not huge as in overweight though )

    Re: Rivalry Games

It's a more important rivalry game in football than it is in basketball.

Football is 1 game out of 12.

Basketball is 1 game out of 30+.

I agree. Iowa played their hearts out like it was the NBA championship. They celebrated like it was too.

ďI told you, I donít care if youíre black or white. I donít care if youíre rich or poor. I donít care where you come from, whether itís Texas, Florida, California, or right here in the state of Iowa, I donít care about any of thatÖ But what I did care about is moving forward from that day on, that we were one team." -Paul Rhoads

I do not see Fred as the fire them up guy. He needs an assistant to help him there.

I think thats a bs excuse in basketball especially. I was shocked they stormed the court though. It was a big game for them but that's on our team for being lazy.
