    Real or fake?

What type of Christmas tree do you have? We have a tradition of cutting ours down, although I've been "pining" for years to start a tradition of un-boxing an artificial tree. This year was some what of a fiasco, a story of which needs to be saved for a Friday Confession thread.

    Re: Real or fake?

I prefer real, but this year my girlfriend and I went with an artificial tree since our apartment doesn't allow real treads and we got it at Goodwill for $2.50. However, it was a pre-lit tree and only a third of the lights work, so I decided to "delight the tree." Big mistake. Going into the project I thought it was going to take 2-3 hours, but it ended up being 5-6 hours. On the bright side we got a Christmas tree with decorations and lights for under $30.

    Re: Real or fake?

We have a fake but I like the look and smell of real ones.

Also, I think it is pretty sweet after Christmas to take the tree outside and setting it a blaze. Those things do burn pretty quickly.

It's not Christmas unless you kill a tree to celebrate. I know a fair number of communists and they usually go with artificial.

    Re: Real or fake?

When the kids were young we went out and cut down a tree, when they got into high schooll we started buy one and now have a artificail tree. Several years ago with only the wife and myself for most of the holiday I decided the clean up was not worth having a real tree. We have alway gotten long needled trees and I went out and found a very good looking long needle artificail tree, pre lit. I takes me 10 minutes to put up and take down with no mess to celan up.

    Re: Real or fake?

My wife and I currently don't have a tree, but we both grew up with artificial (someone in each of our families were allergic). I'd eventually like to get a real, long needled tree. I love the smell of real trees.

    Re: Real or fake?

    Fake for many reasons:

    1. I don't think our apartment complex allows real trees
    2. Allergies
    3. We come back to Iowa for Christmas, so it's impractical to have a real tree die and become a fire hazard because nobody was there to take care of it

Artificial. My church group sells real trees as a fund raiser. That kind of makes you hate real trees.

    Re: Real or fake?

Had a real tree the first year we were married. I swear that thing dank a gallon of water a day and still dropped a craaapload of needles that stuck in the carpet for 11 months.

Then, found a huge garage-sale artificial tree for a few years that took about a dozen string of lights. Took forever to put up with its zillions of poorly color-coded pieces/branches.

About five years ago we upgraded to pre-lit artifial tree. Breaks down into three pieces, branches hinged so that when you carry a section upside down the branches collapse, making it super narrow so you can easily get it downstairs for storage. It's actually a Martha Stewart tree from Kmart (might be the only thing in our house from the K-fart-a-mart) but it looks awesome and so far (knock on wood) all the sights still work.

And, I put up a piney-scent-thingy so it still smells like Christmas.

QFT. I was going to say if I can touch them they are real, but now I will say you can't beat a real tree.

    Where is the fake option?

There are not many crowds or places in the country that have a better impact on the game than at Iowa State. The Cyclone fans are truly a sixth man. The place is so loud and always a fantastic crowd." - Former Kansas and current North Carolina head coach Roy Williams
