It means she is now an at-will employee and if she doesn't straighten out her tired act, they can fire her with no repercussions.

It also means the Board of Regents is sick and tired of seeing the Univ of Iowa on the front page of the DM Register (for all the wrong reasons). Her days are numbered.

Isn't this how Geoffrey gave BVD the hint to look for another job?

Yes, he went onto a year to year contract vs. having a multi-year deal. Wasn't long after he was gone.

The BOR better be careful what they wish for. If memory serves me it took well over a year and two retained searches costing in excess of $200K (combined) to hire Sally Mason.

They claim it is a difficult position to fill because you have to run both a university and a hospital.

I think it's difficult to fill cuz most educated people don't want to be a stinking Hawkeye.

Perhaps they need to split out the hospital administrator duties to a separate position. It would be difficult for anyone to do both well.

I agree on the stinking squawkeye sentiment.

Since they would not be paying the salary of a president, wouldn't that still be a cost savings even with the 200K search?

I father-in-law is a research doctor/lecturer at the hospital and he has been saying for a while that he and many other's at the university feel that Mason is unfit as an administrator.

You can spend a lot of time and money picking out the perfect floral bouquet for your date ... but you're probably better off checking if you have bad breath and taking the porn out of the glove compartment.

The moral: you gain more by not being stupid, than you do by being smart. Smart gets neutralized by other smart people. Stupid does not.

Well, this could be a beginning to the end of the UI celebrating mediocrity. Let's hope Barta is next.

Apparently Ferentz isn't judged by the same standards.

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

I heard that they have interviewed Paul Rhoads for the position and are going to offer it to him. Word on the street is that he is already packing.
