Now lets assume there is no way that Wisconsin offers CPR more then $3 Million/year (which is probably liberal). That would mean Wisconsin would have to offer CPR a 6 or 7 year contract just for him to even consider it, IMO.

I'm not sure any school would want to lock a coach with CPR's resume down to that length of contract.
The buyout isn't worth that much though which has to factor in to the process in case things go south in Ames...and if things go well for the new UW coach they will renegotiate quickly. Just thinking this out...I have zero idea if CPR is interested or if UW is even interested...

Media darling and well respected coach.

ISU still has the stigma of not being able to win here, like it or not. Opinion is still .500 here is considered a big win. .500 at ISU translates to greater win % schools with better recruiting and name recognition.

Plus not to mention his ability to sell to recruits, boosters and administration.

Re: Rhoads has intrest in coaching Wisconsin?

My initial reaction was that Wisconsin isn't a big enough step up from ISU for CPR to take it, but after looking at recent history, I'm less certain. Wisconsin has only had 1 year out of the last 8 where they won less than 9 games. I wouldn't call it a top job, but it is probably halfway or better to a top job.

I'd like to think that it would take a top job (along the lines of Alabama/Texas/Ohio State/USC) to lure CPR away, but it may not. Especially with a significant increase in pay, or if he truly has dreams of coaching at a top school at some point in the future. He's much more likely to get there coaching at Wisconsin than at ISU.

This is not a bad thing, even if CPR does leave for Wisconsin. It is up to JP to make sure that the program continues on an upward path.

kirkie the scum is an anomoly. Coaches don't stay at places for careers. CPR has done a fine job, and he will at some point get a big job somewhere else.

I don't think he leaves at this point, but wisky is close enough that distance from his father wouldn't be that big of a deal.

But once his father is gone, then all bets are off.

Okay, the contact states he'll be getting 100,000 raise every year starting in 2013, with one time pays of 300,000 in 2015 and 2018, along with a 200,000 bonus for 7 wins or more, which would come with an additional 100,000 for a bowl. With this math, he's easily over 2 per year, especially if he wins 7 games, which is just around the corner consistently. With a 1 mil buyout, and Wisky paying BB(a proven coach with championships) 2.6, I just don't see this happening.

What? CPR leaving would be a bad thing. It is hard to make progress with coaching transitions.

My guess is CPR gets a raise from ISU that was probably already in the works.

He will be coaching at a "TOP" school in 10 years (ISU). He will have ISU to a respectable perennial 8-9 win team, competing for conference championships. You can see it building already with the culture change, the expectations, etc. It is building before our very eyes.

Well, if you want to play that game, BB's contract goes up by $100,000 a year as well. He earned a Conference Championship bonus as well as a bowl bonus. I'm sure those were larger than CPR's bonuses so he is probably well over 3 this year.

No matter how you spin it, it still is about a $1M gap.

Really? 14 conference titles, 7 prior to Barry. 2 Heisman winners, 1 prior to Barry. A program record of 644-475-51 (B.A. is 118-73-4)

I know national pundits like to call Wisconsin an embarrassing program before Alvarez got there, but it's still a FAR more successful program than ISU. Besdies, when Tank says history he's talking about the last 20 years (essentially the lifetime current recruits), because older than that doesn't matter
