you realize he's getting paid 4 million a year right? It's not like he took less to stay there. So yeah, If ISU offered Rhoads more money than Wisconsin was willing to pay then I agree he wouldn't leave.

Of course the Alvarez shadow had a bigger impact but I found it interesting that with their attendance to games and Big 10 tv money they weren't committing to facility improvements more.
I know Wisconsin was pushing to get a new Football facility ever since Alvarez took the AD position, and it took awhile for it to get approved, but from everything I have seen, their new athletic village will be state of the art.

Re: Rhoads has intrest in coaching Wisconsin?

I saw the tweet mentioned on ESPN Rumors page... even the poster said it would take a lot to get Rhoads to leave ISU. Bielema is on record saying one of his main issues leading him to Arkansas was not being able to retain quality assistants due to budget concerns at UW, so I am not that job is a great upgrade from where he is right now anyway.
Still, while I have heard of other teams being interesting in CPR, this is the first time where I have heard rumors of him as interested in another job.

This could be serious as I see Wisconsin as a good fit for someone like Paul, but this could also be a ploy to get another raise. Agents are smart.

I've never seen so much interest in a .500 coach. Why are people always after our coaches with limited success. If it's such a great job, why aren't they looking for somebody coaching a team in the top twenty-five.

A coach with a more impressive resume. Not saying CPR is the best coach in the world, but his ability wouldn't hold him back from UW, it would be his resume.

yeah I'd say they blow ISU out of the water. Wisconsin is a top 20 job, some of you are treating it like they're Pitt.

He wouldn't be the first coach to turn down an offer from a better program though.

anyway, this is all moot because I don't see Wisconsin going in that direction.
Pretty interesting that no one is beating down the Captains door this time around for all the high profile coaching job openings. And this would be the optimum time for anyone remotely considering him to jump on that train. LOL

if Paul Rhoads left before he had Iowa State in the hunt annually for Big12 titles, he would make the list right up there with the like of Gene Chizik and Cael Sanderson

This will be their 6th. I don't think they're that much better for HIM. Plus, any Cyclone would LOVE to bring their program from obscurity to the top of the Big 12. Four years isn't enough to do that, and I think he stays, whether they offer him or not.

***BREAKING NEWS*** John Gruden has just accepted the HC job at Wisconsin. I have no source and you should not cross check me. But we can officially end this thread now.

Re: Rhoads has intrest in coaching Wisconsin?

    A few thoughts about this.

First, this is one opening that would mildly concern me as a Cyclone fan. Culturally Wisconsin is fairly similar to Iowa and he'd still be relatively close to his dad, so it's not quite the same impact on his family as if he'd uprooted and gone back to, say, Auburn. They have a history of success and conference championships; it's been proven that the right coach can win there. There's no question that this job is a step up from Iowa State. Not a massive step up as a job like Oklahoma or Ohio State would be, but a step up.

That said, I think we need to remember that Barry Alvarez is running the show at Wisconsin. With his contacts from the old Hayden Fry coaching tree he'll have no shortage of interested candidates that he probably knows very well. I would be mildly surprised if his hire didn't have some ties to another branch off that tree, like someone currently or formerly on the staff of Bill Snyder, Bob Stoops, etc.

It's also worth remembering that this could simply be a matter of Rhoads angling for another raise or extension. I don't know who his agent is but we all know that this is silly season for coaches and inserting your name wherever you can is part of the game. If that's the case I would support a modest bump for CPR, but I think we need to see that breakthrough season before we make a big leap in compensation.

Re: Rhoads has intrest in coaching Wisconsin?

His pay is a joke to be honest. I know it's 20 million guaranteed but its less than 2 mill a year right now. He is one of the least paid coaches in the BCS
