Re: Announcement is here: It's Mediacom

Many will hate it because it's Mediacom but imo it's a huge step forward. No it's not national but you still have access to everything online including live streaming. If they went with FSN or ESPN that would likely not be possible and you would be even more ****** especially if your provider wouldn't offer the channel.

If I stay in the area I will be getting Mediacom because of this deal, I wouldn't have said that an hour ago.

So there is no way for people on anything other than Mediacom to get this channel? I sure wish it was in the SportsPack for DirecTV.

It's still available online, just like today.

It'd be really nice if they could get it on other providers, but I'm considering switching to Mediacom too.

At this time no...just give it time Cyclones.TV hasn't even been around an entire year yet.

Re: Announcement is here: It's Mediacom

"This agreement allows our athletics program to become only the third institution nationally (Texas and BYU) with a fully dedicated channel for its sports teams," Iowa State Athletics Director Jamie Pollard said. . . .

Cyclones.tv and Mediacom will also air the Paul Rhoads Show, the Fred Hoiberg Show, the Bill Fennelly Show, the Cyclone CYdline & CourtCYd Shows at Applebee's, an Olympic Sports Spotlight, live media conferences and archived classic replays. . . .

"The partnership with Mediacom is a game changer for our athletics program because we will be able to provide the most comprehensive coverage Cyclone sports teams have ever received," Pollard said. "The deal improves our ability to reach fans and recruits throughout the midwest, clearly strengthens the Iowa State Athletics brand" . . . .

. . . Pollard said. "Our relationship with Mediacom means that our Cyclones.tv content will be available to more than 500,000 additional viewers." . . . Cyclones.tv is ranked No. 2 nationally for total viewers among all of NeuLion's (Iowa State's web site provider) 100-plus schools. . . .

    ------------------------------------------------

Seems to me this is big, big stuff, not a yawner. No. 2 national viewer ranking right now shows Jamie P's foresight in moving quickly under the new Big 12 TV rules. Then, Jamie P expands ISU TV viewership by extending its reach to one-half-million additional viewers, including adjacent states? Wow.

CPR has the football program moving (we're all excited about football recruiting and what it means for the future), we want the SEZ, which means we must expand our fan followership, which means more bucks for the AD. It's circular motion, and with every revolution we seem to pick up speed. Kinda like a Cyclone, right?

And there's Jamie P, like the Wizard of Oz at his console pushing buttons and pulling levers. But Jamie's the real wizard, the stuff that's happening is real. And, it's magnificent.

(Big side benefit, too. We can drop the so-so private companies that do a poor job carrying ISU programs. KCRG Cedar Rapids, for example. Sunday night it ran with the eiu basketball show, and ISU and Fred H were scheduled to follow but was replaced by some sort of outdoor show. Take a hike, KCRG. ISU is the rising power in the state, which means you lose out.)

Cool, being in Omaha with Direct TV, this does nothing for me. But good for the program.

The other thing to remember, this is a 5 year deal. Might be okay to get it going, but then in 5 yrs, go for something wider.

I do really hope the dedicated channel will be in HD. Would be a bit lame to launch a new channel in 2012 without it.

#2 among schools that use NeuLion (NeuLion - Internet Television Technology Innovators (IPTV) - Company Information) not across the NCAA

Doesn't impact me, hope it pads the AD's checkbook. Now, either force NeuLion to create apps for internet ready devices, make a non-flash media player, or ditch them

Any idea if this means the non-conference Mens Basketball games could be put back on ESPN Full Court next year?

I think this is like the bowl game. A bunch of people saying this is a bad thing. It's no bad, disappointing maybe, less than we wanted okay, but bad? No.
    Going to a bowl=Good
    More TV exposure=Good
    Better bowl next year=Hopefully
Getting even more TV exposure in the future=Hopefully

Would like that a lot for convenience sake, but I'd still have the subscription to watch online either way (no mediacom for me). I love the deal for the program though. We're stepping forward more and more here. Great times for ISU.

If you look at the schools that use it, however, it looks somewhat impressive.

NeuLion - Internet Television Technology Innovators (IPTV) - Company Information

Edit: I guess it did the same thing to you. Automatically changed the link to company information, instead of the list of schools using it.
