    Auto Insurance Claim Advice

I am wondering if there are any guidelines/threshholds about when to submit a claim in regards to the estimate and your deductible. For example, I recently hooked a guyline while backing up and damaged the front bumper, wheel well liner, and a "deflector" that I think prevents water, snow, etc from getting thrown up into the engine compartment. $820 estimate and I have a $500 deductible. 1 speeding ticket in the last 7 years and one minor claim for a parking lot accident about 6 years ago. I am thinking of paying for it out- of- pocket. All opinions are appreciated!

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Talk to you agent. They can give you advise on what to do.

Buy a spot on the CF bus to the bowl game. Find a convenient time to sidle up to Adam Gray. Speak to him in hypotheticals about a "Friend" who "hooked a guy line" and whatnot. ????? Profit.

Do not file a claim for $320. You will pay a whole lot more than that in premiums over the next several years.

Like clone homer said... It's not worth it.... These insurance companies are getting out of control... Your record is not "clean" so I would eat it...

Talk to your agent about it. However, must companies only look at your record in the last 3 years, so as far as they're concerned you most likely have a clean record. If it was me I would turn the claim in. At my job we don't even count losses less than $750.

    Re: Auto Insurance Claim Advice

I am in the camp of don't make the claim if you can afford the difference. It also comes down to do you want a claim hanging on your record for 3+ years, so that if some other crap happens, while the first one may not affect your rates greatly (talking to the agent helps here), 2 claims definately will send your rates sky high. I just got a bunch of crap off my insurance record but it took nearly 4 years before everything worked itself off. So just consider keeping your clean record intact so that you don't end up paying more when crap eventually does happen.

Defiantly not worth filing a claim over $320 bucks. I made this mistake by filing a claim for a cracked window and it reset my clock on my 1 year claim free deal w/ progressive.

    Re: Auto Insurance Claim Advice

For those not accident prone, I'd recommend a $1,000 deductible. I've had it for over 10 years and it saves me over $100/year. So after 5 years with no claims it's all gravy.

BTW-Up until last week I had the same insurance for 12 years. Every year I usually check how my rates compare to someone like Geico and they are not that much better. This year I checked with esurance and they would insure 2 cars (about 60K worth) for $490/year and I was paying nearly $1,000 with my other company. All the coverages were the same with the exception of not having tow service. They quoted me for home owners but were $300 higher so I'm staying where I'm at for that coverage.
